So why would Edmonton do it?

In lieu of today's GDT, we will be having a Bennett thread. It is written!

Sell High? Puljujarvi had wanted out previously? Not sure though, if Oilers even consider doing it

I'll believe he is a healthy scratch when I see it. Dregger does not have a great pulse on the Flames.

Gonna be funny when the flames lose in the first round after playing soft for the entire series again.
Not saying Bennett is the answer but more Derrek Ryan, Simon and Nordstrom certainly doesn’t sound like a recipe for winning a cup, which ultimately is the only thing that matters

I feel like Bennett getting traded will help unify CP.
No Benny, Together Strong!
What will New Era and I fight about once Benny is gone?

That's my concern - as much as we like his playoff performances, it is only 26 games. Hard to know if that is sustainable long-term.

Edmonton might be tempted if GMMcD vouches for his childhood friend over the guy he seemingly doesnt want to play with on the same line!
But I think it would be a stupid trade for them to make at this point.

Would love to see us snag Buchnevich out of New York. Their defense is also looking a bit thin, I wonder if we could offer a package with a defenseman to pry him out of there.

I dont understand why people are upset that Bennett is a healthy scratch if it isn't because of a trade.
He doesn't want to be part of this team, he has one assist in 9 games and leads the team with a -5.
Sounds worthy to have a seat to me.

Bennett hurt himself by the Dallas series last year and wasn't even able to hit and muck it up as much. It's nice how he goes balls to the wall in the playoffs but that style clearly isn't sustainable for too many games in a row.

I feel like if McDavid can turn Kassian into a 20 goal scorer, he can make Bennett into at least that if not better. Puljujarvi will be lucky to get 10 goals, and that's playing with McDavid. I think guy's a bust, to be honest.

He has been pretty ineffective, but he hasn't been the worst player on the ice. He has been inconsequential though.
If this is what it takes to light a fire under him, then so be it.

Teams that can use, and would love to have Bennett :
Detroit. Can send back Jonatan Berggren (point per game player in the SHL, ready to come over and contribute next year)
New Jersey. Can send back Micheal McLeod (right handed C/RW just starting to produce in the NHL. Calling card is he's insanely fast)
I wouldn't think he'd go to a fully established team like the Leafs. What would he do there? Get ready for a very unexciting return, of a prospect with unsure potential.

I didn’t think much of Bennett with Gaudreau and Monahan last game. Simon did as well, and that’s pretty telling.
So then he’s just a square peg here. Play him at C like some want and he’s got bad wingers (though I think Leivo outplayed him the last couple games). Play him with better line mates like Backlund and Dube, and now he’s not a C.
I’m afraid that, for me, he just doesn’t show much, and like I’ve said before, his PO points production is a little misleading IMO. He’s not a horrible player like some say, but he’s no game changer.

Sam bennett was the 3rd ranked in hits on the team last year. Lucic had almost 100 more than him, Tkachuk had ~20 more than him, and Lindholm only had a ~10 less. These splits hold true almost exactly proportionally to the start of this season.
We don't need sam bennett just for hitting. That's a stupid reason to keep a player around, especially when we're already paying 6 mil for Lucic to do it twice as well.

If Bennett hadn't formally requested a trade, I imagine this "Coach decision" will certainly bring that formal request out.
Last game I think it was when one of the analysts/broadcasters ran a replay of Tkachuk mucking it up and then they commented on how the team backed him up. You know who "backed him up" in the scrum? It was Benny. Benny was also out there laying hits last game, unlike everyone else.
This team seems to want to play emotionless, slow, soft, boring hockey by design. I don't believe in this approach.

Not interested in him. Seems to be out of the same mold as Pavel Brendl.
Currently has 7 points and is a -2. Sounds like a stat line from the 1way talents up North.

He's Garnet Hathaway or Eric Nystrom. Useful player to some degree, but not someone to rely upon or worry about when he is gone.
