He would have easily gotten to 1000 if not for lockouts and COVID I think.
He likely missed a full season in 04-05...probably 30 goals there.
Missed 34 games in 12-13: so another 15 goals there.
Probably another 30 games or so between the two Covid seasons, so another 15 goals there.
He'd probably be around 975 right now if not for all that missed time too.

And if you're going to count WHA for Gordie then KHL should probably count for Ovechkin.
So he's actually going to pass Gordie Howe this season for most professional goals scored - because he's at 969 right now if you include his KHL and NHL totals.
Although Jagr probably joins that equation too then maybe.
