I agree, but we just didn't bring that many effective attacking minded players or any box-to-box passing CMs (like Buscher).

I think we need to maintain composure, possession, and not get demoralized by bad turnovers caused by players who may not have the skill level to be on a top CanPL club. By sitting a player like Camargo or Oliver behind the strikers, we might have a chance of attacking with 5 and defending with 7 since Mavila, Farsi, and Pasquotti have a lot of pace.

That linkup play between Buscher and Minatel is sorely missing.

I think adding Camargo back will give us enough offense to do enough to win.

Regarding Cordova, he had 4 touches in 15 minutes. It's impossible to discern any impact he can have off so little action.

The Cavs have no problem getting into the second phase, but do the points carry into the next phase or are all teams start with 0 points again? If points to carry over, the Cavs better win the final first phase game.

The second round is a clean slate for all teams.

Second round schedule is out. Games are on Sept 9, Sept 12 and Sept 15, with the final on Sept 19. Both weekdays have games in the afternoon so expect to miss at least one of them.

Depends on which scenario benefits Forgery FC more.

York defeat Edmonton 1-0 so they are now level on points and goal difference with Cavalry. Cavalry are ahead in the goals for tiebreaker, so a draw on Saturday would see Cavalry ahead of York in the standings

Ottawa defeat Pacific 1-0. Will be a crazy last weekend of games.

A draw Saturday will see Cavalry through to the next stage. If Cavalry draws, the worst case scenario sees Pacific and HFX / Ottawa win, which means Cavalry finish 4th, ahead of York on the goals for tiebreaker.

If Cavalry lose, they would either need Pacific to lose to Edmonton (HA), or the HFX / Ottawa game to be a draw.

No Camargo and no Büscher replacement has gutted the central attack of this team. Set pieces take a huge hit with no Büscher too. Malonga was an interesting player, but he could be counted on to finish more times than not.

The good news? This is the year that we don't get to see them from the stands, and they are significantly less exciting. Hopefully by next summer they are dynamic again and this pandemic thing goes away.

I havent been able to watch any games so far so I'm wondering how has Minatel been playing? I remember last year he'd be dynamite in stretches then go invisible for a while. Seems like he benefitted a lot from Buscher's play.

I've found he's been largely invisible, with a few decent plays here and there. I think he really misses the linkup from midfield.

It'll be very interesting to see how Tommy lines up the team tomorrow.

Unrelated news but according to Instagram it looks like Büscher tore his ACL over in Germany. Don’t think it was in games as I’m not sure his season has started again (or the next one)

Tommy insisting on going with a back 3 again. Our defenders simply haven't been good enough for that the last 3 games. That said, if you're going to insist on wingbacks, Mavila and Farsi are the best options we have. Northover can't do that role.

This lineup is really weak in attack, but with Camargo, Cordova and Hernandez all injured, I guess this is what we get.

The ball keeps disappearing. It’s like a glitchy video game.

I think that will end Minatel’s year.

Strange decision on his part in trying to kick the ball through Thompson's body in front of him which clearly was never going to work. Still it sucks to see any injury.

Minatel just had his leg snapped in half, and we didn't even get a foul on the play. Then OneSoccer decides to Tweet out a replay highlighting it. This league just pisses me off so much sometimes.

The odd part was that it resulted in a goal kick. If the defender got nothing on the ball then how is there no foul?
