Given that Stone's a rental, most of the return would need to be conditional on him re-signing / Flames succeeding. Two conditional firsts, Dube and a lesser prospect would be fine, and pin the conditions to WCF and / or a re-signed Stone. That way everyone wins.
I agree with the "don't trade Valimaki for a rental" notion and I don't think Kylington as the main young player going back gets it done.

If Stone isn't traded today and doesn't re-sign, Dorion should be fired.

yeah calling it just Tierney and picks is disingenuous.
that's the equivalent of the flames giving up Kulak, Jankowski, Mangiapane, Valimaki, a 1st, and a 2nd for Karlsson

The return includes several picks and prospects. In exchange for Karlsson, the Senators receive four players — forward Chris Tierney, defenceman Dylan DeMelo, and forward prospects Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers — as well as a first-round draft pick (2019 or 2020) and a second-round pick in 2019. If the Sharks miss the playoffs in 2018-19, that first-rounder will be in 2019; otherwise, it’s a 2020 first-round pick that will go to Ottawa.

I'm going to guess we still get Stone last minute, for a 2019 1st, conditional 2020 1st (if re-signs), Kylington & Dube
It's the downgraded offer vs. what they're apparently asking for. Would suck to lose Dube but we don't have a lot of room for him in the lineup in he next few years anyway, and we're only making the deal if we're signing Stone which would just be another guy in Dube's way.

For sure Treliving is still lurking, and for sure he's not overpaying.
I would dangle our 1st, conditional 2nd and a prospect out of Stockton (Dube or maybe Mangiapane) and that's it. Maybe give them Lazar back lol
Essentially what I'm getting at is we really don't need Stone, and if we can't fleece Dorion we should walk away. Stick with the horses that got you to the race; our roster is fine as is.

that it's one reporter's opinion of the scenario at that snapshot in time? until the deadline passes and we get confirmation he hasn't been moved, offers can change, and so can team's "firm stances"

Yeah Vali is a dealbreaker for me as a fan. I’d do Kylington but not Andersson or Vali

I agree that this should get it done, but I think you'll see a bit of pushback around here for giving up two good young players and a first for a guy who might walk after the playoffs.

I feel like the book on Dorion is out -- be patient, turn the screws, and he'll buckle. Hence the mostly lackluster returns on all of Ottawa's recent trades. So the Flames trickle word out to local media types to say they're basically out, put Maloney on TSN to do same, and then wait.
Incidentally, the situation Dorion is in is exactly the one Burke, by not buckling on Cammalleri in 2014, helped the organization to avoid during its own rebuild.
