Disappointing but not entirely unexpected. I suspect this will be valuable experience as they move forward and mature, but overall, the Ducks were the better team in the moments that mattered in this series and probably deserved to move on.

Some thoughts:

- Eberle I'm done with - will likely have to eat some salary for 2 years but he is what he is at this point, that being a point producer on a bottom feeder but not a contributor to a winning team

- McDavid - good but not great in the playoffs - these 13 games showed he has some work to do on fighting through the level of scrutiny and attention the playoffs bring. Anaheim having a guy like Kesler posed a big challenge - hopefully he adapts and I suspect he will

- Talbot - he may not be a top 5 goalie yet but probably safe to say he's in the top 10 and climbing. Such a luxury to have that guy back there night in and night out

Anyway, it was a fun ride while it lasted. For the first time in I don't even want to admit how long, "Wait until next year" doesn't ring completely hollow. If you guys get an upgrade in net it should be a fun year in Alberta.

Anaheim was the better team in game 7 and deserved the win.

Talbot sure showed his fatigue though.

Mcdavid still needs to shore up the defensive play which will lead to more offensive chances. Maroon and Cagguila aren't much help in the D-zone either. maybe Chiarelli will find a dependable vet for this line in the offseason.

I think the Oilers need to find a quick D-man with a good first pass, and offensive instincts. To much rimming the puck around the boards in the final game. They could have used Sekera, and another D-man with some creativity.

I never knew Draisaitl would be such a handful. I originally wanted Bennett over Leon in the draft because I liked Bennett's up tempo aggressive style. I figured Leon would be too passive, but the kid was like a bull in a china shop this playoff run. Pretty surprised by that wrinkle.

If the better team always won, then it should have been a 5 game series with Anaheim advancing.

The fact it even went to 7 games was extremely flattering to the Oilers.

This x 100000000.

I don't understand how some Oiler fans seem to think they were the better team. I'd venture to say they were thoroughly outplayed by the Ducks in 5, if not 6 of the seven games.

Yeah. Anaheim held the edge in play over the course of the series, but goalies gonna goal.

Oilers showed resiliency in being able to come back from being down both in games and from bad breaks.

I won't agree with you that the Oilers didn't deserve to be in the series. Anaheim was the better team, but the Oilers had their moments as well.

Honestly, this year he was a top 2-3 goalie and MVP of your team. It is strange that a team with an Art Ross winner would have a goalie for an MVP, but watching the Oilers all season, this was fairly evident.

It's a beautiful thing to have if it turns into a regular thing. Only time will tell and won't bother making a prediction as it's anyone's guess with goalies. However, if everyone on the Oilers stays the exact same next year, and Talbot is a top 10 goalie, they are a wildcard team. If he is top 20, they won't make the playoffs.

Oilers weren't the better team, but they had a 2 goal lead (or more) in 5 of the 7 games.

Is it just me or was McDavid on the ice for 80% of Anaheim's goals?

I think (and at least one TV analyst has said) as things played out, this might have been the Oiler's best chance to flow through the POs (what with Chicago and St. Louis getting bounced by Nashville and facing probably the most vulnerable team, with a 2-0 lead).

I think Anaheim was the better team in all but the blowout game. I agree with you on Draisaitl - it was a real eyeopener. I wonder though, if it was a "Ferland versus Canucks" event or something more permanent.

Its not just you, but in fairness he was on the ice for about 80% of the time in general.

Ummm he has grown 5 inches since the season started. He is now 6'6 and is Gretzky in Lindros's body. At least thats what Sportsnet's been feeding the past 5 weeks.
