Not a mono expert, but the beginning of the season seems like a long time ago.

I'm not the biggest fan of this trade but I'd take Lazar over Yakupov every day.

Don't know his case obviously, but the fatigue can persist for months

Yeah it can take a lot out of you for a very long time. Definitely a legitimate excuse in Lazar's case imo

Not to mention once the season starts its hard to get on shape. Most players deplete as the season goes along.

From what I've read about the guy is that he's hard working and has strong character. Which doesn't suggest he's a malingerer. Mono is a legit defence.

Any word on when we can expect him in the lineup?

Nothing official that I've heard, but reasonably I wouldn't expect him in the line up until at least one of two things happen:
1) Flames lose
2) There is an injury to a forward

For what it's worth, I had a guy work for me once that contracted mono. He was out for almost 2 months with the initial infection, and then for the next 6 months after I had to expect that at any moment he would have to go and lie down somewhere or flat out go home due to incredibly intense fatigue.
That guy was a very in-shape 21 year old. Mono ain't no joke.

I had it when I was 20 and I was out of commission for 8 or 9 months. Basically one entire year of university was a write-off.
On the plus side I lost like 30 pounds and the doctors prescribed me Vicodin (I lived in the States at the time). On the negative side it nearly derailed my university career.
Knowing what Lazar had to contend with this season I'm not surprised he's struggled.

Very very true. I'm assuming it'll be the Brouwer - Bennett - Versteeg line he'll be playing on when he does... but I'm pretty relieved that they've left the team as is while they're hot (even with that line's lack of production)

I knew a guy who was laid up for 11 months with mono. It can be a dirty mother if you can't shake it.

I was just at Royale for dinner, if you haven't been I'd highly recommended. In the back of the restaurant was Backlund his wife, Curtis Lazar and his parents. I can't think of a better guy to mentor Lazar especially since Backlund took a long time to break out. Hopefully Curtis can follow his career arc.

So the answer to whom the 2nd round pick will be was answered last weekend.
Alex Formenton of the London Knights.
He scored 16 goals last year.
6'2" and 165 lbs according to hockeydb.com http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=185947
Elite Prospects Page: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=273622
So just for fun...everytime Lazar excites or disappoints this year I'll be checking on Formenton. See if our "Right Now" former 1st round pick turns out to be a better asset than the pick.
And for the record -> it's not like we traded this 2nd for an old vet. Lazar is only 22 years old so I think we got a great gamble on a kid who could still play 10+ years from the Flames!

That Formenton kid looks like a wildcard. Put up mediocre numbers last season as well as a horrendous playoffs performance (purely stat watching), but an interesting thing to note is that it was his rookie year in the O, and he's literally Jankowski young compared to his draft class. Could have a huge season next year.
In saying all that. I think Lazar will be an important player for this team and he's really underrated around here.

There is no guarantee the Flames would have taken the same player with that pick, in fact it's very unlikely they would have.
For all you know they would have taken Ruzicka with that pick if they still had it.
