Yeah with the formula we use for determining seat next numbers, Quebec's representation, etc., it's not as easy to change as it would be for other countries.

Harper really made no attempt to reach out to the other 60% just hoping to win on splits. What can Trudeau change?

Oh, yes they did. Mostly I was thinking of /r/Canada on Reddit though. However I'd probably be downvoted to oblivion by the zealots there who wouldn't like it if I pointed out their hypocrisy.

For those who think they will lack representation now, if you live in Calgary you will benefit from the new government because the Liberals consider urban Canadians to be their core supporters. I've always been puzzled by the reluctance of Calgarians to think of themselves as urbanites first (rather than Westerners), but this election might change that. And with Calgary definitely in play in federal elections now, expect the city to get a lot of attention from all the parties. That's a good thing.

Not just Quebec's allocation, but rules that say a province cannot have fewer MPs than Senators, which is what entrenches the Maritimes' disproportionate number of seats.
And when push comes to shove, the one province most likely to support change voted against STV in a referrendum. But we'll see. Personally, I doubt electoral reform will be a big issue in the minds of either the Liberals or "progressives", now that Literally Hitler and his illegitimate government is gone.

We could have another poll but I like the first to the post system
A) Duceppe loses!
B) Mulcair almost loses! (not really)
C) Candidates represent a local constituency
D) Encourages people to run. Would you run as a candidate if you're 100th in the party line?

 I feel bad I wrote Kent off so early in the vote counting - very happy he squeezed through with a win! He'll make a great representative for Calgary Centre.

I voted CPC but predicted LPC would take the seat. Way more Liberal signs on balconies and in yards,

I think the shift in attitude is happening, and that's why you have your first Liberal MP in Calgary since 1968. In fact two of them, and it was very, very close to 3.

You missed the point. That article was written specifically because there was enough fools who actually made the "illegitimate government" argument to justify pointing out that it was no less legitimate than any other.

Nanos was once again pretty spot on with his final numbers.
Projected: LPC 39.1%; CPC 30.5%; NDP 19.7%.
Actual: LPC 39.5%; CPC 31.9%; NDP 19.7%.

They seem pretty concerned about Trudeau reneging on his promise.
But perhaps it's best to relax. It's 12 hours after the election, you're not exactly giving a fair period of time for the comments about legitimacy to come out.

What happens with the TFSA contributions now? Is he simply reducing the NEXT year's contribution back to $5500? Or somehow backtracking it if you haven't already made the maximum contribution?

I think it's for 2016. Hopefully they'll just forget that part of the platform

I didn't even get a flyer at my door from Len. Matt's team came by multiple times, and left different information. I'd guess they were by at least 4 times.

Proportional representation in Canada would also mean there would be a larger Liberal presence in Alberta as well.
I can't find the exact popular votes numbers by province from last night, but going by the October 18th poll and assuming that the election was similar, it would roughly breakdown as:
CPC -> 50% = 17 seats
Liberals -> 27% = 9 seats
NDP -> 15% = 5 seats
Greens/Others = 4 seats

Here are the words from the playbook on electoral reform, there are many different ways this could go, to make it clear; they(Liberals) did not promise to change it, they promised to study it.
"immediately after the next election, an all-Party process be instituted, involving expert assistance and citizen participation, to report to Parliament within 12 months with recommendations for electoral reforms including, without limitation, a preferential ballot and/or a form of proportional representation, to represent Canadians more fairly and serve Canada better."
Not sure those who support it would get what they want. I could see an advantage to a kind of Alberta party that could partner up with one of the parties to promote policies to the advantage of Alberta, of course this would also make the BQ very powerful. My gut feel is that with the Liberal winning a majority, this will not happen, nor is it desirable to give every fringe movement a public voice.

Trudeau did say though that if he won, this would be the last first past the post election in Canada.

That he did

Also this:
Quote:
We are committed to ensuring that 2015 will be the last federal election conducted under the first-past-the-post voting system.
We will convene an all-party Parliamentary committee to review a wide variety of reforms, such as ranked ballots, proportional representation, mandatory voting, and online voting.
This committee will deliver its recommendations to Parliament. Within 18 months of forming government, we will introduce legislation to enact electoral reform.
