Just perusing Bruins forums, it seems like they think he can be an elite offensive player, like 65+ point tier.
They're also really iffy about his game in the D-zone, sounds like there's going to be some real growing pains. We can at least afford to shelter him on the second or third pairing, something he wasn't getting on Boston's top pairing with Chara.
In terms of NHL games played, he's nearly two seasons away from the 300 game mark where Dmen are supposed to come into their own. That said I'm not going to expect him to transform into Chris Pronger. I'm going to treat him as a second pairing offensive defenseman who happens to be on the tall side, and if he proves better than that, awesome. But anyone expecting him to handle shut down minutes against Getzlaf and Perry anytime soon should temper their expectations. We have the best shutdown pairing in the world in Giordano/Brodie, if the second and third pairings can just hold the puck in the offensive zone that'll go a long way.

Honestly - he checks EVERY box for the Flames in terms of their biggest organizational need. Game-changer.

I'm one who wanted Boychuk last summer for two 2nds. This isn't a stop gap like getting some vet, this is a real building block. It will be interesting to see how our budget goes as some didn't think we had room for Hudler before this. I guess even if Hudler moves on, we should still have some young players ready to step in. That's one difference from when we got Bouwmeester and had to let Cammalleri go.

I think I would start Hamilton with Gio. Gio would be a fantastic mentor and could cover for any mistakes. Maybe start Brodie with Wideman. Russell with Engelland. Although Russell and Wideman were a great pairing last season. But then who plays with Engelland?
Who the hell am I kidding, just throw any two out there and they will be ok.

Yep, if you had to pick just one thing the Flames needed before today, that's what it would be........top 4, right handed young d-man. Can't believe Treliving pulled it off. Unreal. Treliving has really impressed me so far. Next up is a stop-gap goalie for the next 2-4 years. Maybe he can pull it off tomorrow.

Hamilton's frame is still lanky and could use filling out. I think Ryan van Aston will turn him into some sort of insane super athlete. Ridiculously strong with deep gas tank. With the speed, skill and smarts.
Boston just handed us our future #1.
Partly as an 'f the Oilers' move.
Hockey Gods have made their presence felt

Dreger said in SC that Arizona offered their 2016 1st round pick for Hamilton.
Seems odd that Boston would reject a pick that would have a high probability of being top 5.

Technically speaking, all goalies are there to stop the gaps…
(Don't mind me. I'm having a good day. I'm buying a vehicle for cash, no debt incurred, and the Flames bought Hamilton for picks, no roster players lost. My inner Scotsman is over the moon.)

Been reading the HFBoards main trade threads for this hookup (there are two and the first one reached 1000 posts in half an hour) and found this in part 2 by a Bruins fan:
"flames fans should be upset with their management group for ****ing us over so heartlessly. Enjoy your top line defender for the next decade. We'll enjoy trying to develop 2nd tier prospects"
I like the Bruins. But seeing their fans' reaction makes me absolutely giddy. This is just... this was sex without lube.

Another identified need and the off-season is still young.
This team is levelling up.

And we could use another top-6 forward. By trade or on Free Agency.

Hey, I'd love an elite goalie, but at the very least the Flames need a decent tender that can hold the fort until Ortio/Gillies/McDonald are ready to take over in a few years. Really interested to see who that is.

Yep, a solid young right winger would be nice as well.
Sure is nice to zero in on needs now instead of years ago when the Flames needed pretty much everything. Slowly the pieces are being put together, fun to watch.

Yeah, I really don't see the Flames going after any D at all on UFA day now. We have loads of money tied up in D now, and tons of depth with prospects ripening on the vine in Stockton too.
Decent depth chart IMO:

I really want to see what Shore can do. That play he made vs Nashville on the cycle with Stajan, to Ferland, just oozed top 6 forward skill
