I won't go in depth as many others have completed my thoughts on the scrimmage already. I will add (although somethings also said before):
-
Brett Kulak - no one I could see really mentioned with him. I was extremely big on this kid before he was drafted and he has done nothing to thwart my thinking. He was subtly impressive - good skater, smart defender - watch him this year especially on the Vancouver Giants.
- Really impressed with Monahan's hockey sense, awareness and passing
- Monahan and Gaudreau should be a dynamic duo for a dozen years when they finally get together on the Flames
- One almost has to start drooling when Gaurdreau exits the zone with the puck, creates space for himself...tremendous puck skills and creativity
- Like most, very pleasantly surprised and intrigued by Keegan Kanzig
- Poirier: left wanting more - he had a couple of good shifts and maybe a couple extra good moments, but I didn't really see a tenacious, gritty, energetic forward that many have touted him as...I saw him look lackadaisical on occasion. However, I'm not ready to condemn after one live viewing - still hope the Flames bird dogs got it right with the 22nd pick.
- Many have said they didn't see much from Klimchuk until his nice shootout goal. I beg to differ; while he didn't have any highlight reel offensive moments, I thought he was really solid, tough on the puck and displayed his hockey sense.
- Josh Jooris was another pleasant surprise, but have to keep in mind he is 23 yrs old, as of today - Happy Bday Jooris!
- Granlund was really impressing me even before he scored - displaying really good hockey IQ, knowing where to be and when to be there.
I'll cut it off here as I could go on...and on...
It was great to get back at the rink and fantastic to see the ever evolving talent pool of the Flames. The future will be burning bright...
{Dreaming of adding Sam Reinhart/Aaron Ekblad and then Connor McDavid to the mix....}
Looking forward to Monday scrimmage highlights from CPers; the day job prevents me from attending.
