Well that other guy (Norm Perrault, probably spelled wrong) also predicted the floods!
Its the hope and wish of every candidate in every race that even if they haven't done enough work they somehow get elected tomorrow. Maybe everyone will just mark an X for them and they win by sheer luck. That's basically the only way 1stland is right...which is to say he isn't.

A lot can change.
Tomorrow evening I will totally eat crow if Nenshi wins by a landslide and you all have permission to to make fun of my prediction.

No offense, but you're completely clueless if this is actually a prediction.

The race is so not close that the mayor didn't even have to campaign for selection and instead tried to get people to vote in general. I have no idea where someone would find evidence to say this is close...just asinine.
|
I am excited for the election coverage!
do you think if there was a worthy challenger it would be a close race?
A month ago I would of predicted a Nenshi landslide too.....

No offence taken. But this is genuinely my gut feeling based on who I have been talking to.
Maybe I hang around too many "rednecks" ?

What do you mean? Aren't you arguing literally right now that it is close? Do you even pay attention to the things you're saying to troll?

I've found another drawback to living in an older, established community: Every time there's an election, I have to check to see where I need to vote because every time it's at a different one of the multitude of schools that are within an easy walking distance from my home.

Who even cares about this vote tomorrow. We all know Nenshi is going to win. The vote I care about is on the 24th.

No matter what happens, the Shaw election coverage won't be as unintentionally awesome as it was in 2010.

Oh, man, that was amazing. If they had released that coverage on DVD I would have purchased it. What I remember:
- completely inexperienced young lady interviewing Ric McIver and his wife at the campaign HQ - I think she asked about music
- female host and radio DJ giving each other "F me" eyes while an old fuddy-duddy sat between them. I thought they were going to go at it on his lap
- Weird little guy looking at Twitter reaction with nothing insightful
I know there's more I'm missing.

It is amazing how quiet it is in the press - and the fact that no details of the deal are known (assuming anyone on the reserve can go into band Council offices and look at it) amazes me even more. Media didn't get anyone to go look at it and tell them what's in it? I'm gonna guess it passes.

Good point about how it is amazing details have not been leaked. I sure hope it passes.

I remember it well. The radio DJ was going on about how Nenshi had definitely had the best campaign, while the old dude didn't seem to know who Nenshi was and kept going on about it being a two horse race between McIver and Higgins. The old guy seemed genuinely offended that anyone would even consider Nenshi as anything more than a joke candidate.

Does anyone want to make a prediction thread? I think every incumbent except for Gael McLeod will win re-election, with Taylor running Farrell close in Ward 7 but not close enough to win. Chris Harper to win Ward 1. Joe Magliocca in Ward 2. Sean Chu and Gael McLeod in Ward 4 will be very interesting to watch and I think it will be the closest of all the races. John Mar will destroy Evan Woolley by at least 1500 votes in Ward 8. Andre Chabot will win by the largest margin of all the wards in Ward 10.
I'm rooting for Taylor to beat Farrell.
Nenshi will get at least 75% of the mayoral vote.

I haven't seen much discussion on Ward 13 candidates, but I liked Adam Frisch's response to lowering speed limits to 30km/h in residential communities. He's against and suggests using traffic calming and 4 way stops near playground/school zones to slow down traffic. I'm not sure I like his views on Shawnee Slopes (how can this seriously still be an election topic?) but otherwise he seems like the best alternative to DCU.

He seems OK, but strikes me as kind of "out of it" for some reason. Like his campaign isn't well thought out and some of his ideas are just pretty far off the map. The problem is that Sorokoski (who has a lot of volunteer experience in the ward or around) basically has no policies or ideas. Its just so disheartening to see other wards with legitimate choices and options and us stuck with terrible representation for four more years.

This is not going to be a very exciting race. Everything is pretty much predictable, except for a couple of races. I actually think Ward Sutherland will beat Chris Harper and I really hope Taylor takes down Druh but that is not likely to happen and she will squeak in again by a few votes.
Gael McLeod was an invisible alderman last term without a firm stand on anything. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Sean Chu looks like a no better candidate, unfortunately. Too bad for Ward 4. Same for John Mar vs. Evan Woolley - either option is bad.
