I mean, he did so much damage to his body, especially his heart, that he likely had high risk for passing away suddenly like this without drugs being the culprit.

Really sad news all the same. He looked like he had mostly beaten his demons of late.

Man this one hurts. Chandler Bing was always by far my favourite. At the same time with some of the demons he was/did battle it's not a complete shock either which sucks.

RIP Matthew Perry.

I got to meet Matthew Perry as a kid when I got to be an extra in his movie The Ron Clark Story. I shot hoops with him in the school gym we were filming at. You can see me briefly during one of the scenes at the school earlier in the film. He was incredibly kind to us kids. RIP Chandler

The drugs did there damage long before this. I am shocked he lived this long.

Reading things around the net, it sounds like heart failure after getting into a jacuzzi/hot tub....and then drowning before help arrived.

Sad stuff.

In a hot tub? Maybe he was trying to travel back in time to 1994?
That's my best attempt at a Chandler Bing joke.
RIP Matthew.

Ellen Foley is still around.

Early heart failure is a common cause of death of drug (especially cocaine) users. You pay the price much younger than the average person. This is presumably what happened to Carrie Fisher. I don't think he ever really got totally sober from drugs or alcohol. His book more recently explained he had to drop a netflix show because of opioids.

I admittedly did not watch much of his work but I picked up his book as I also have been on my own sobriety journey and was recommended it. Very upsetting hearing this news, but given all the struggles he detailed in the book I hope he is in a better place. I am glad he was able to tell his story and it will help others battling similar demons. One of the best written memoirs you will read. Hilarious, tragic, and inspiring all at the same time. The things he went through with his disease was very hard to read so I am at least glad he does not have to suffer anymore

Tough news to swallow. Such a talented actor but struggled with many demons. I’m glad he’s finally at peace but feel for his family and friends. Being famous isn’t always glamorous and he talked on several occasions about how fame wasn’t all it was cut out to be.

May you rest in peace and be free from all the pain you encountered. Thanks for the great memories.

“I was reminded of this by my friend Chris Murray, that we actually beat up Justin Trudeau.

“We both beat him up. I think he was excelling at a sport that we weren’t, so it was pure jealous. So we beat him up.

“I’m not bragging about this, this is terrible. I was a stupid kid.”

I remember he was in Calgary at the time during the 2004 series and was at Game 3 watching Flames vs Red Wings in a private box.

I also remember couple days after that, he made an appearance at Joeys Crowfoot, and "accidently" (it was intentional) walked into the glass door (with a bang) to let everyone know it was indeed him, and was kind to anyone that stopped by to say Hi to him.

RIP Matthew Perry
