Yeah, with AD production values you'd think they were having FIRE! sale.

probably because Netflix has a deal worked out with Movie Central (who own the distribution rights for Dexter in Canada) but not Showtime

Added Dexter Season 6. Cool! I thought about pirating it, then thought about buying the DVD set, but scoffed at the $40 price.
Now I get it for free (cause I'm already subscribed), and no fumbling around with discs.

Anyone else notice the subtle marketing for the upcoming season of Arrested Development?
"Families With Low Self Esteem" and "Girls With Low Self Esteem" are both available... Can't wait for May!

So there's apparently a SuperHD option for Netflix (less compressed) and 3D movies are coming (a few in the US already), but in order for either of those to happen ISPs need to have special hardware to get content delivery closer to the users (which makes sense), the hardware and stuff is free to ISPs.

But of course Shaw doesn't support it:

Be nice if Shaw signed up:

Think it's worthwhile if a bunch of us write in to Shaw to request this? Or is it a waste since Netflix is a threat to their Cable/Satellite networks?

They seem to have the opinion that it's a merely a blip on the radar. Nothing worth paying attention to. But they probably won't provide this for you.

I'm pretty sure Shaw views Netflix as a big threat to their cable/sat business. They are trying to roll out their competing on-demand products now.
That's a problem when many ISPs are also cable/sat providers when they come into conflict with Netflix taking away some of their core business. Instead of paying $50/month for cable television, a lot of people opt for the $8/month for Netflix, and other services.
The cable company still retains the internet business but it's not as lucrative and bandwidth caps and throttling exist to squeeze more money out of the consumer that has taken to streaming completely.

Decided to try Netflix because we got fed up with cable tv, there is enough on here to last awhile. Count me impressed, might have to try the US feed at some point. Watching Archer in the evenings.

You can choose to believe me or not, but I was in the room with many people who are the decision makers on that front, and they don't consider on demand viewing to be any risk to their business.
Netflix is discounted by the fact that it's not first run content (except for AD in this case) and all the streaming apps are discounted because they don't believe them to remain free for very long. At least not while the show production of first run content is driven by broadcast.

CBC Article on Netflix:
Quote:
Super HD requires a constant internet connection of at least six megabits per second, which means it will ultimately use up about 2.7 gigabytes of data per hour.
|
Quote:
Netflix has been vocal about the low caps, with chief content officer Ted Sarandos last year saying, “It’s almost a human rights violation what they’re charging for internet access in Canada.”
|
Quote:
“We would love for Canadians to be unshackled of their bandwidth caps and stream as much as they want and have unlimited internet access,” he said. “Netflix is a killer app for broadband and because people want it, ISPs will sell larger packages to people and faster speeds. We drive a lot of demand for ISPs and we think they like that.”
|
Quote:
Despite the obstacles it is facing, Netflix still manages to resonate with Canadians. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission last year estimated that about 10 per cent of adults subscribed to the service since its launch in 2010. Analysts believe that number is actually double.
Halifax, in particular, is a Netflix stronghold, with 40 per cent of households subscribing, Evers said.
