^^ There have been complaints about the CRTC since day one. It's not necessarily that they're too closely tied to industry, it's that their mission has become kind of irrelevant. We've moved from a isolated market to a world market. We're still following the rules for Monopoly, while the rest of the world started to play Risk.

For anyone that missed it last year, thinking of switching from the big 3 to a smaller company, this promotion is back again this holiday season.
http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/12/14/wi...-miracle-plan/
Quote:
Starting tomorrow, December 15th, WIND Mobile will be re-introducing their Holiday Miracle plan – this gives Unlimited Canada-wide and US calling, unlimited texting, unlimited data, Call Control (Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, 3 Way Calling, Caller ID), and Voicemail. This is open to all new and existing WIND customers (current customers will have to pay a “one-time $30 processing fee”). However, if you signed up between December 7th and 14th, 2011″, WIND notes you “can switch to the Holiday Miracle plan free of charge”. In addition, according to the internal doc we received it says this promo plan is available to those who sign up on the WINDtab+. The terms and conditions states this promo ends on December 25, 2011.

I forget what it was called, but Wind has offered that same package for $35 previously.

That chart is a bit misleading as wind is only 3G.

One quick google search says you're misinformed.

So Wind has a 4g network @ 1700 mhz and any phone that uses 4g can use 3g. I think you're just being a disturber of the peace... in a forum thread.

I'll throw this out there...
Been with Wind for a while now and have absolutely loved the experience (Calgary). There is service when I need it, the data speeds are excellent, and the price ($30 for me) is amazing. I would GLADLY pay $40/month for the service.
And yes, your bill will be EXACTLY $40.00 + 5% GST.

Thanks for bumping this. On the phone with Rogers now.
EDIT: Wind would be $80/m for the two BBs on my plan. Rogers just lowered my monthly bill from ~$150/m to $115/m, with lower intntl long distance (this is a significant cost on one of the current lines). Minutes and data are slightly reduced, but not to the point we'll be going over I think.

Nice!
Due to some actual competition in the Canadian cell market you just saved 420 bucks in the next 12 months!

I've read pretty mixed reviews with the data plan. Competitive pricing but the network tends to be slow especially in some areas ie. GTA. I played around on my dad's wind phone in Vancouver and youtube videos streamed pretty well.
I'm thinking of getting the data stick and do the pay as you go plan. Anyone on Wind longer than 6 months notice a degradation in network speed? How is streaming audio/video on Wind's network?
thanks in advance.

I am actually almost at the point where I would break even switching from Rogers at this point.

I only have about a year left. Time to call telus and threaten to cancel. And maybe actually do it if they don't give me a better deal. It's cheap enough ($40/m) but I could go for some upgrades.

I've been on Wind in Edmonton for the past year. For my usual places, no real issues with data or phone connection. There have been a few times where I will have a poor data connection for no apparent reason but not a big issue for me.
The best thing for me is everything is unlimitted so I don't have to watch minutes or time of day. If I want to use it I will.
When we are out of the calling zone, I am just careful with the phone use. Incoming texts are free and I am usually at someone's place that has wifi for data.
I am willing to recommend Wind but figure out where you will be using your phone to ensure you have coverage. Also check the costs for calling overseas.

I have a condo in Vancouver but just not there enough to justify paying for monthly internet. The pay as you go Wind data plan looks perfectly suited for my needs which is about a month to 6 weeks per year in the motherland.
The $99 data stick with router and $5 bucks a day for unlimited internet access are cheap enough that I won't feel too bad if I can't watch netflix consistently...as long as I get email and Calpuck, I'm happy
