Well to respond to your response to my 4 year old argument. The cab license system sucks and should be changed. But to begrudge someone who makes $24 per hour dealing with drunks and has a relatively dangerous job seems ridiculous.

You make more sweeping the floor at any northern site.

It also makes me happy to see that I have not been banned in the intervening 4 years like so many other posters.

Has anyone mentioned a taxi permit yet? That's where the real money is. 300k in TO, I believe they are now 125k in Calgary. They tend to appreciate like real estate in a growing city. The fact is that most people go into other jobs because it's not that that much fun to be a cabbie, not because of the money.

Being held up at gunpoint or beaten up by drunks is not a perk.

Isnt it illegal to sell them though? The city really needs to crack down on this market of plates.

Cabbies in Yellowknife wanted the city to limit the number of permits issued so they could appreciate and city said no. Good on them. Let the market decide how many cabs a city needs.
