Totally way off topic but this is why I never want the Stanley Cup champion to play the whatever champion from Europe. If they fluke out and beat us once, we'll hear about it for 100 years.

Not slim at all. Fowler may have saved them with that huge putt after the Marinara choked his 4 hole advantage away.
Will all come down to Mahan halving his match - if possible.

Just.....wow. This thing is gonna come down to the wire.
Fowler birdies the last 4 holes for a halve. Mahan is 1 down with 3 to play...if he can get that match AS, the US will win in the most improbable way.

Too bad McDowell sunk that putt.
Speaking of sinking, Stewart should have beaten McIlroy and not halved. With Marinara's implosion, it would have meant that Fowler clinched the Ryder Cup with the winning half point. Can't see McDowell losing both of the final 2 holes.

Possibly. But it is not like he was in good form prior to the Cup or has a winning record. Makes sense to not put him out there. The way he played this weekend was impressive though.
Monty was smart. He put a solid pro out there for the last pairing in case it went down to the wire. The last 3 have been blowouts, but this was probably always going to be close. Front-loading is ok, but you really do need someone with nerves of steel for that last pairing. Pavin should have known this.

It's alot easier to captain/coach with a 3 point lead!
As for Pavin, it wasn't even frontloading. Tiger at #7 makes no sense.
But yeah Tiger should have been first or last. Maybe put Tiger first and Stricker last.

Tiger not only can handle the pressure of being down 1 with 2 to play, but he would put an incredible amount of pressure on his opponent. How does Mahan makes sense in that position? Tiger may not be playing his best, but you know he wouldn't crack.

I had to watch the final match on my iphone with the battery dieing, but it was a good win by the Euro's.
I think Pavin knew he had to put pressure on early and have all of his big guns out early.
By all accounts the US over achieved - it wasn't supposed to be this close.
Funny, I am not a Tiger fan, but you sure cannot argue now with his selection to the Ryder cup team. Pavin might be thinking it is too bad he couldn't have had a captain's pick to leave Phil at home.

All the media, analysts, commentators, golfers and Monty's leadership team had made considerable mention of how they 'knew' the US would come out and front-load. Monty could have thrown all his big-guns out first in the hopes of taking it to the US and winning the necessary points early on. He didn't. Even though a lot of the media has been really arrogant, most of the Euro players thought that this would be close, ergo it made sense to put a steady hand - and a major winner - out there in the final pairing.

People around here are flipping out because that kid that sealed the deal for the Europeans was a College Golfer for University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Wow - only just got back from an exam.
I've just watched the highlights, and managed to avoid the score all day.
What a finish! Bit of a comeback from Fowler in his game, didn't see that one coming with Molinari on the 15th green with a putt to win the match.
Say what you will about front-loading and tactics (that can be debated until the cows come home), but what a great advert for sport. Again. The Ryder Cup is up there in the very top few sporting events in the calendar.

It is a bit of a stretch to say that Tiger has been brought down by the play of his partner in previous Ryder Cups. Even if it were true it would only be a factor for the fourballs and not the foursomes or singles. There have been a few poor partnerships, but that is a pretty weak excuse.
I don't think that anyone questions his ability in match play golf - President's Cups and the US Amateur speak volumes. But he definitely has not shown that form regularly in the Ryder Cup. Who knows why.

I'm watching the end of this now, what a finish. Fowler was so impressive on the last four holes. I can't believe the people following this Mahan match.
I've got to go to Medinah in 2012. Seeing a Ryder Cup would be better than watching a major.

Watching clips of the press conference was sad and inspiring. Mahan was crying the entire time and could hardly speak. Everyone came to his defense.
The US comeback and just falling short might make them stronger in the long run.
Early reports say Davis Love III and Jose Maria Olazabal will be the captains in 2012 at Medinah.
