Even though it's still illegal since she's underage, if it's consentual, then I guess the 16 year old wasn't as big of a monster as we all thought. The kid will still need to take responsibility for his actions, and I hope the court finds him guilty.
The reality is kids do stupid things, and peer pressure is one of the worst kinds of pressures out there. We were all kids once. I'm sure we've all had at least some experiences where we've done some pretty stupid things that we knew was bad, but we still did it because we were egged on by our peers.

Man, I know kids can sneak around, but what parent in this day and age allows their 12-year-old daughter to use Facebook without ANY moderation? This could have all been avoided if her dimwit 1 WPM-typing parents just checked to see who she was talking to on Facebook or --- GASP -- not allowed her on it at home or have her own account.

A 16 year old should damn well know, not to be engaging with a 12 year old. How desperate would you have to be to even want to do something like this? Of course the argument will be, he never knew she was 12, I bet she said she was older and will lighten the sentence against the 16 year old.

All 16-year-olds are desperate. They'll screw a chicken if you leave them alone with one.
I agree, though, by the time you're 16, you should at least know better.

Not that I'm condoning or excusing statuatory rape, but I can see where he'd have an argument here. I mean, honestly, the between 12-16 age range is so iffy with some girls. Maybe he really thought she was older. I can see a 16 year old wanting to get it on with a 14 year old. It's not like he's going to ask her to see her junior high ID.
Of course, most 16 year olds probably wouldn't be doing it in mid day on a soccer field with a bunch of people watching, but maybe that's just my old fashion mentality.

For all the crime problems that Pineridge had, I swear our family got super lucky. We lived in a cul-de-sac where in 20 years living there I could count the number of 'incidents' on one hand.

Really? i was there for 9 years and i don't recall any incidents at all. Well maybe because we lived on a busy street. But i guess i escaped the hood in 1989 so i guess i missed all the fun and excitement.
The worst thing that happened was i saw a dog get mowed down in front of my house. But he didnt' even die and the driver tried to help him.

I lived in Temple from 1987 to 2006. And besides my dad's extension cords getting stolen, we have had zero incidences

I keep going back to the hard floor age of sexual consent being 14, there are no exceptions to that rule anymore as far as I can see.
This 16 year old has screwed himself. He'd better get ready to submit his DNA sample.
