.... 80 posts in and there's still no one to give a legitimate review of the game.

I know it's probably been explained somewhere, but what is this HUT?

Sounds like people are into it

My review would be pretty scathing right now.

So disappointed.

Really? Why?

The AI is controller bustingly frustrating. Since I play a lot of offline this really blows the big one. They really didn't invest much into the game other than the physics (a major step in the right direction, the game isn't all bad) and HUT.

BeAGM already seems to have a ton of glitches (superstars in the AHL, recently drafted unsigned prospects immediately becoming FA, people are reporting freezing). Even HUT has some problems, some people have two goalies in net...sometimes the goalie doesn't even show up in the net and you can't do anything but quit and lose a game on your cards...and your EA pucks.

I don't want to get on a rant because it just upsets me further. It's just a video game. And if you play 5vs5 or 6vs6 then there shouldn't be a problem.

Offline gaming on sports titles will be dead in a few years. These are just the first sickly signs of a dying era. The era of the casual gamer has already died.

I am trying this HUT, and it's pissing me off. My team sucks, so I decide to take my best player, and pump him up with some consumable cards to see if I can trade him for something. What happens? You can't trade guys that came in a free pack! Why the hell not!

I don't feel like I could provide a review as all I've been doing is the HUT online. I'm veey impressed with how it's working.

To answer the question above, HUT is the mode where you are given packs of cards consisting of players, jerseys, training, contracts, coaches and stadiums to make up your team. After each game you earn pucks that you can put towards new packs. The more pucks you save up, the stronger the card pack and more likely you'll get top tier players and huge contract extensions.

The online this year seems very smooth. Usually i have a hard time making little moves because of a slight lag, but I'm not noticing that this year.

The only offline I've played was in the demo and admittedly i didn't notice the AI issues that Yamer did. Every year head games come out there are people that are upset with the AI and I'm just not one to usually notice. There are exceptions (such as 04's constant issue of the dmen doing a quick deke out of the zone when near the blue line causing an offside), but for the most part i look past many things.

Edit: if having a dream team (or even a normal team) is your cup of tea, HUT surely won't be your thing. The way the contracts and cap work most teams will stay relatively mediocre.

I guess I just happen to notice on a 2 on 1 when my teammate decides it's a good time to peel off to the boards.

Atrocious.

Is it really too much to ask that they put a "leaders" category or something in for viewing stats? It's a real PITA to have to cycle through all the teams to finally get to the full NHL list.

I hope they know that they are wasting space with all the offline modes then.

While I was initially a huge fan of tapping your stick for the pass, I have to say, doing it every time is absolutely, positively, one of the worst ideas they've ever had.

Did these guys play the game? TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP-I'm losing my mind!

Edit: i like the game overall from what I've played in the first couple of hours, but that is something that is really sticking out to me.

Cool little moment where Ian White broke/lost his stick and another player came back and gave him his.

In the 5 games or so I've played, I swear, I hit more posts than Olli Jokinen.

This is the one and only reason I’m so stoke to fire up NHL 11 and try HUT after I finish these freaking month-end reports. The fact that there is a cap is so nice; I can look forward to trying this out knowing that I won’t be facing team after team of ovech/crosby/datsyuk or whatever stacked through all four lines.
