Not just a one front attack, either, but sometimes full-on artillery bombardments followed by bayonet charges. I wonder if some of the newbies that stray onto CP aren't just brand new to internet message boards and aren't used to the high levels of anger and stroke-inducing rage that seem to fill the heads of some more veteran posters, including myself, at times.

Maybe we're all just a bunch of sour old internet posters? The shoe rant and the conservapedia thread have revealed to me the pure hatred that seems to seethe just below the surface of CP.

At the moment, I'd say hostility levels board-wide seem to be, on a scale of 1 to 10, around a 7, maybe even edging into an 8. It could be the long summer break and the frustrations over how Calgary ended their season, I'm not sure. Maybe Machiavelli can step into the thread and give us some advice on how to remain cool and avoid all major confrontations that pop up on here? I don't think I've ever seen her go rageroid.

I'm going to end this post with a nice tranquil tropical beach where all CP members can go, sit, sip coconut water, and relax. Serenity now, serenity now:

You gave me some hope for getting back on CP forums. I am not an avid poster, but I do like reading few posts on hockey games and related matter. I spend more time reading the off-topic forums, and even those have recently become hurtful and insulting to some.

I've actually had strange experiences arguing with friends/girlfriends over email/net that would have been 100% different in person.

The net seems to add a lot more confrontation, grudge holding, nitpicking into the mix.

Lanny was a knob. He was a class-A jerk. He also had zero sense of humour. Absolutely none. Even the most obvious joke would set him off.

Guy was totally wrong about most everything. His abysmal treatment of other members was something to behold.

Instead they just go on a witch hunt for users with only a couple months on CP and try to bash them untill they get banned or just leave.

As a fairly new poster I agree with what you're saying. I shared my opinion and got attacked by several posters just for having a different opinion. Wasn't right and not much fun.

Interestingly enough, I have PM evidence that Lanny wanted to invade Iraq right after 9/11. And then he completely went against the War in Iraq in 2003.
Well, in fairness, I think a lot of people were for the Iraq war until the evidence proved to be a complete farce. Alas, another debate for another day.

One thing I've noticed with this site from the way we deal with trolls is that it seems that some posters want to bait or get involved with confirmations, and create bickering and hostility in threads. Just see how the FoI forum deals with obvious trolls that want to get a rise in people, rather then making them look very foolish and just flat out ignore them, they take the bait and devour it, and then it creates a little mess in a thread that could have garner great discussion. For not being an official website forum like Flames.com, we sure love to be easy pickings for trolls.

I'm still angry with puckluck for posting 100 posts a day. That's my shtick, dammit. It gave my life meaning!

Lol everything is so clear now. You guy's were treated like crap when you guys signed on so you have to pass on the crap to other posters. Sort of like a hazing ritual.

I feel like a Criminal Minds profiler now.

Like me.

I'm not trying to degrade his opinion or anything. I just find it interesting how he reacted right after 9/11.

The thread on CP right after was still one of the most memorable threads ever on CP.

No, it's just that most of us don't like you overly much.

9/11 and the Cowperson vs Captain Sensible thread made the OT forum.

...thank you 9/11...?

Yeah, pretty much. 9/11 set off years of serious OT forum debates. Some of those threads make OT threads now like a bit pathetic.

I love CP. Part of my routine to check out what is happening with Flames news, and the Off-Topic usually covers the range of local/national/international news and events.

I have met fans on here, made friends on here, played poker, played hockey...Plus they let us keep Canucks and Oilers fans around for our amusement!

What's not to like?

(Side note: Game Threads should be avoided unless you wanna get in a pissing match on the internet or over analyze the game to the most micro detail)
