You can see the pilot ejected literally at th last millisecond. Those pilots are told to try and land the plane at all possible costs.

Love the additional "Woohoo!" and "Is that Torra Torra?".
The girl talking in this video is without doubt the stupidest person on earth. I'm actually angry she hasn't found a way to die yet. The oxygen she's breathing in is better spent on fighting the methane gas cows produce. Unbelievable.

"Woohoo!". . . "Is that supposed to happen?"

My god.

Anyways, glad the pilot made it alright.

They just talked to her on Global National, she looked to be about 14/15, so atleast she has an excuse for saying dumb things.

Even if they were really really...really dumb.

Wooo Hooo!

That's the CF-18 with that Centennial paint job... wow... that's a blow to the air show...

That is a SURPRISING picture to be captured...

Glad to see the pilot is safe and has ejected.

Since the pilot is alright, we can joke about how badly the above picture needs a 'fail' border...Hell, it's already 1/4 done...

Wow just drove by for a look, there isn't much left. Thank god the pilot ejected safely.

^^^That picture is absolutely amazing. Looks like an engine problem from my very amateur perspective, at that attitude and altitude I doubt that is recoverable, ever.

Boy the timing on this is something that's going to be used to defend the new jet acquisitions, especially if this was caused by engine failure in a 20 year old fighter.

There was a tailwind, which isn't ideal but wind is relative once you are airborne. It doesn't throw a plane around quite like when a gust hits your vehicle on the highway. The 18 has a high enough thrust to weight ratio that it can power through gusts. I guess it's possible that he had a surge from a gust up the tailpipe but the engine doesn't sound like it. At the end of the high alpha pass the pilot throttles up and accelerates vertical, that could also contribute to a surge.

Wow, amazing pictures.

It looks like to me a loss of control. Judging by the tail stabilizers, they locked into a position giving a right roll. Leading up to the roll, you can see the pilot moving the stabilizers and maintaining the AoA and bank, but just before the roll starts there doesn't appear to be any inputs or they have no effect. You can hear the engines spooling up just as the tip started, but he probably realized it was too late and ejected. I didn't see any apparent engine failure signs, such as a stall, flameout, or iconsistency in exhaust plume.

My bet... computer failure. Without a computer to aid in stability, they don't fly.

edit: On review of the photos even further, it appears the right engine nozzle is closed more than the left. I can't recall what the positions are and how they are controlled however.

If it weren't for the fact that it seems like she SAW the plane hit the ground, I can forgive her a little bit for mistaking the fiery crash for this fiery pyro display by Tora Tora Tora. (Just one R, folks...)

Check out these photos, more amazing shots.

Good comment there about the difference between the exhaust turkey feathers pre-crash.

If you look at the back of the engines you can see one is more open than the other
