It's not about when, it's about the execution. Apple to submit facetime tomorrow to make it an open standard.

So Canada should have the same pricing as the US correct? $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB.
Coming out June 24. Pre-orders start June 15.
EDIT: Aw Canada got the shaft. July.

I don't even think it's about execution, it's just having a critical mass of devices already established and adding the feature.
Video chat's one of those things that makes no sense if you are the only one you know that has it.

Yeah, all execution.
I would consider them putting it on a device where millions already exist and opening it up to other devices and developers pretty good execution.

Cisco is licensing the name to Apple.

I think they said that it will only work on iPhone 4 to iPhone 4. So pretty limited to say the least. That might change of course. But it won't work on existing iPhones as the camera is on the wrong side.

Which is exactly what I said in the first line which you didn't quote. What's your point?

Sorry, by execution I usually take that to mean in a technical sense (i.e. something done much better than someone else), not a business strategy sense. There's nothing new from a technology perspective was my point, they're just in a position of knowing that when they release a new phone it will sell millions, so from execution of a business strategy yes I agree.

The FaceTime application will only work iPhone 4 to iPhone 4. That doesn't mean Skype won't be able to access the camera and allow you to have a video call from your phone to someone's computer.

That's true.
The disappointing thing with the video chat is that you can only do it over WiFi. I can't see 3G happening anytime soon because data rates are so expensive for so little data.

This conference goes for a few days right? I'm sure they'll be a few more smaller announcements/reveals (smaller compared to the iPhone 4).
