That would be the best option, even a 2 hour time limit would work. But it is up to the city to do that and we all know how fast and effective the government runs.

I am going to send a letter to city bylaw and explain my concerns. I will post if a 2 hour time limit is introduced to the spot.

There is something too getting a sign and putting it there. A property manager told me a story of a building he was managing downtown where the owners were having an issue with street parking. They got/ordered a sign and put it up, apparantly rather poorly one night. When the city was doing the maintenance rounds they saw the poorly mounted sign and properly secured it. To this day the sign is this there with the parking restrictions.

I'm not entirely sure why you're taking so much heat for this.....I'm actually kind of proud that a Fed Employee actually gives a poop about providing access to the public. Like a few others have already said, it's much easier to think "It doesn't impact me, so I don't care."

As for what to do.....I like the idea of a note. Simply, politely list your concern and (most important) make it easy for her to implement a change. Mention that there's free parking available and maybe provide a building contact number so she doesn't have to go searching.

Where at Canada Place can you park where it would effect the buses?

You are way too nice!!!

I say hire a couple of thugs to beat her up some day as she goes out to her car... and as they leave have one of them say:
"My handicapped Ma comes here and she can never find a parking spot... CAUSE YOU'RE ALWAYS PARKING HERE BITCH!!! Park here again and next time we start tearing off body parts!"

There's nothing you can do about the handicap placard situation. If she's got one, you must assume she needs it for some reason. Leave that alone.

The best thing to happen would be if one of her superiors could say, "could you please use the employee parking, the spot on the street is for clients." Of course, that might just open up the spot for another handicapped employee (even in another building) to do the same thing. If the spot is truly intended for clients, a two hour parking limit is probably the answer. Ask building management and/or the city about getting it marked as 2 hour parking.

Have you read my previous posts regarding the proper procedure for disabled people who work for the federal government? Like I said before, even if we all agree that she is legitimately handicapped fair enough, go park in a spot underground FREE so that the general public can access government services.

Yes, my personal belief is that her MOBILITY is not impaired. I may be wrong but see above then. Remember I have watched this person for 2 years. I have also seen many handicapped people in the same 2 year period and she does have any mobility issues compared to them. I have seen many people some in wheel chairs some without legs some 95+ years old unable to park in the handicapped spot because she is there.

Yes a doctor needs to sign off on a handicap application, but please dont try and tell me that doctors really care about it. And if they do, they are in the same vote as the rest of us. When someone complains about pain or limps in the office, the doctor is not going to question it. The fact is it is why open for abuse.

And it is a temproary spot. The management company that runs the building wants it to be a temporary spot, that is the intent of it. There is a program in place for people to get permanent parking to keep that one open.

So please, don't tell me it's abhorrent. Whats abhorrent is someone abusing a handicapped parking spot for their own personal needs and not carring about the people that she is hired to help.
Can you please get off this idea that it is a temporary spot. It is not a temporary spot, that's why it's not time limited. What the building management wants is irrelevant. Maybe it should be a temporary spot, that seems likely, but as it is it is not. Your issue is with the designation of the spot, instead of taking steps that could cause you long term problems at your job why don't you take steps to change the designation of the spot? Seems to me if you turned your rather over the top sense of outrage towards the appropriate channels you could have solved this issue a long time ago.

I'd suggest a note on her windshield saying "I have video of you parking here with no obvious handicap. You have been doing so for some time, and you are taking up a space that legitimate handicapped people need. I know that you park here all day while in the building working, and I know there are other alternatives that are available to you. If your car is still in this spot next week I'll be contacting friends at CBC and Global TV and providing them with the video of you coming and leaving work. They are already very interested in doing a report on the abuses of the handicap parking system by federal employees. I felt it only fair to warn you, and give you an opportunity to amend your behaviour before being publicly humiliated."

Doesn't really matter if you have the video, or if you are going to contact the news. The threat should be enough to force her to reconsider her decisions. If it isn't, then the news in her face likley won't either.

My suggestions...

-Apply to medical school so you can become a certified doctor. This way you will be able to say for sure she is faking her injury. Then no one here can argue with you.

-Challenge her to a breakdancing contest so see the extent of her injuries.

-Be like Jesus, and forgive and forget.

-Just approach her and ask her how her injury is doing. Bring up the subject of the parking spot. Stare into her eyes. You can often tell if someone is lying by staring into their soul.

-Give me her phone # and l will make an anonymous phone call to her, telling her that there is an online forum with a thread dedicated to her falsly using the parking spot.

-Leave a note on her car telling her that on behalf of the entire office, she is being watched every second that she gets in and out of her car since people think she may be faking her injury. If she suddenly has a 'limp' the next day, you know she was faking.

-Leave a note on her car telling her that because she parked in this spot, another handicap person died on the way into the building because they could not park closer to the door and were hit by a car.

-When she is in the office, get everyones attention and have a show of hands of who thinks she is faking it. Democracy rules.
