I was intrigued to come during and new years. I know the days are short, but didn't you mention that the fireworks were ridiculous?

Yeah, honestly New years is my favorite time of year. I truly consider it one of the must see's in this world, because of the sheer size and scope of the fireworks.

This is about 15 mins after midnight, my sister, husban and 15yr old nephew all seeing it for the first time were like giddy children, man that was fun. This video gives a glimpse of it, but this was well after midnight when it was quieter.

My bro took a bunch of video so hopefully he has some more around midnight to upload.

Thank you for this Thor. Now Iceland and the Arctic are on the 5-year plan.

Definitely want to visit the Arctic Fox Center in Sudavik (sp?). A caged Arctic Fox was found abandoned in a parking lot outside of Orlando, victim of the exotic animal trade. He is now in an Orlando wildlife rescue facility that we visited over Christmas. What a beautiful animal. Can't wait to see some in the wild.

A new tourist campaign, one that I think many of you will agree is quite cool.

Looking at the calender its seems it is mostly over, if you look back to Dec, Nov, you'll see what it was like.

Some of the pictures from PZ Meyers visit to Iceland, we hosted him for a full week as he was eager to see the sights. Had just ridiculously nice weather for the whole week, sunny, not that windy.

Anyhow pictures and a link to a few of his blogs on his visit here at the end.

Love this one, looks like PZ is mad at our Chairperson of our humanist group.

This area is just amazing, surrounded by a near wasteland, its a little gorge fed by 2 waterfalls and its like a small garden of eden, just amazing, had never seen it before and was truly taken by it.

Funny this thread popped up. I'll be stopping in Reykjavik for 2 days starting my Eurotrip at the end of September. Being a visible minority and all, my caucasian friend recommended it as a definite stop over for a Friday and Saturday night, where apparently they absolutely love visible minorities over there. I can hardly wait to be honest. I'm sure I'll be bumping this thread as questions arise. Any good clubs/bars to check out in particular?

Holy crap Thor, are you absolutely sure you aren't being paid for this?

I have always wanted to visit Iceland, mostly for the culture. My best friend and her hubby toured around a couple of years ago, staying at stop-over places along the way. They really enjoyed it (she's also a geophysicist so I imagine the tectonics had something to do with it too).

Iceland Air has sales periodically.

How is Magni these days?

@fleury , OH man I haven't gone downtown Reykjavik in some time to party, but its a small area of downtown where all the action is, kind of like the old electric avenue days in Calgary. Just ask around when you get here and be aware the vast majority of bars don't get going until 2am.

Have fun man, its always interesting down there.

@etherealgirl, haha I wish I was being paid. Magni is good, I actually saw him the other day, this time he didn't punch me so that was nice.

I'm sure Emilio Estevez has issued a statement.
