God....need new bike. Must go Blackfoot. No more wait. ARRRRRRRGH!

Blackfoot? Ewwwwww.
Seriously, the only reason I bougth a bike from those guys is because I got a crazy good deal on a bike the were having a hard time selling (Not a lot of market for MT-01s).
The service there is absolutely horrible, and the nickle and dime you like nobody's business. Bow cycle is WAY better.

So now here I am, picking my bike up tomorrow, with no license because they make it so damn hard to get a license. You need to find someone with a bike and use it for the road test, as you can't get insurance or registration on your bike until you have a Class 6. PITA.

The trick out of this little pickle....IF you've got you bike learner's, you can legally ride if there's an adult is a vehicle around you. Seriously, your Mom can follow you around.
I tell you this because:
1. Pick up your new bike (registry and insurance!)
2. Have you Mom follow you to the DMV.
3. Take your road test (the tester follows in his car)
4. Pass.
It is a PITA for sure, but you can do it.

Their service is (purely in my opinion, this is not intended as slander, blah blah blah) crap for sure.
It's on my way home from work, so I stop by once or twice a week.
Frankly, whoever wants to sell me a VFR800 for the cheapest wins at the moment.

Blackfoot had the best price but the wrong color VFR800a, Bow Cycle matched Blackfoot's price for me.

Please don't spend money at Blackfoot. They used to be a good shop like 20 years ago. These days they are the worst in town.

Sorry for the crappy pic. Rain turned into a blizzard or I would have a better one, but here's the new bike:

Can someone answer this question: how much is insurance for a bike? Do you pay year round or just during the summer time? Like during January would I pay only like $10, then in June I pay $100?

Depends on the bike.
I've got an MT-01, which is a pain in the ass to get insured (Because most companies classify it as a sport bike, and won't insure a 1700cc sport bike), and it's ~$850/year but that includes colission which I normally wouldn't get, but for some reason it's pretty cheap for the policy that I have. That bill I get every spring and it has to be paid in full for the whole year.
For my other bike I just have comprehensive, and it's on my monthly bill for my truck and house, but I don't know how much it is in total, but it's not much. Seriously, if you don't have colission, keep the insurance on it all year round, that way it's covered if your house burns down or something.

I'll admit I know pretty much nothing about bikes, so what better place to ask than CP.....?
What do you guys think about the Triumph line of bikes? I've always liked the looks of them. Especially the old Cafe racers. I've been kicking around the idea of buying one for years, but I'm afraid of dying a quick death.

If I hadn't gotten such a smoking deal on the bike I bought, a Triumph Street Tripple, or Speed Tripple were next on the list.
They're great bikes, and they're just off the board enough that they're good for the ego as well.
If you're gonna buy a bike, you might as well buy one that people will ask you about.

Relative to a car....somewhat expensive.
Early-20's, with a riding/safety course, on a 599cc bike will range you from $80-$120 monthly.

Those were the 2 that were the most appealing to me, actually. Well priced as well, it would seem.
Too much bike for a first timer? Keeping in mind I used to ride a KX250 db so bikes are nothing new to me.

I have a 2002 Suzuki Bandit and it cost $330 to insure for the year. My company makes me pay once a year rather than monthly. I wanted to insure it just for 6 months but they didn't let me saying that in Calgary too many people get tempted by chinooks and take their bikes out random months so I had to pay for the enitire year.

I wouldn't say they're too much bike for a first timer.
The street tripple is ~100hp, so it's no worse than most 600cc sport bikes.
The speed tripple is ~130hp, so it's a little more bike, but honestly if your'e ######ed and prone to get in trouble on a bike the difference between 100 and 130 hp is pretty much non existant.
I'd say it's not a bad choice.
Besides you're old so that means two things.
1) you're more likely not to be ######ed (though knowing you, I'd say that's less true than for most folks your age)
2) even if you do get into trouble, you've had a good run

$330 for the year? Damn that is cheap. I am guessing your in your 30's though minimum.
Me being 19, turning 20, I doubt it'd be even less than $500 for a cheapie bike.

I am 26...first year ever owning a bike as well. One of the biggest factors is how the classify the bike. Mine is considered a sport touring rather then just a sport bike, so it is cheaper.

For whoever asked about Triumph....
I used to own a 08 Street Triple, and loved it. The bike just had so much character, and drew lots of attention. And best of all, it was as fun to ride as it looks, with that amazing triple engine. Throw in good ergos and sharp handling.
My complaint was that some of the components felt "cheap". Not Hyosung cheap, but definitely not at the level that I required for my type of riding. If you just like messing around town and cruising the highways, the equipment is more than enough. However, if you like to really attack the twisties, there are definitely some shortcomings. Nothing that can't be solved with aftermarket stuff, but after calculating how much it would cost me to get the bike to where I wanted it, I decided on another bike instead.
Triumph attempted to address some of those issues with the R model, but IMO, it's better to just get the regular version, and build up.
Had I known that I would end up getting another parking stall at my condo several months after selling her, I would have kept it. It's a great bike overall.

I certainly am proud, but I'll be happier once I can get it on the road!
