What the hell is "real atheism"?

I know the religious types love to point at each other and say "you are not a true believer because such and such" and use it as a motivation for all sorts of things, but it doesn't really work with the non-believers. Not believing is really all it takes.

Materialism vs. Metaphysics. Unless you think all atheists are all basically nihilists.

Such big words! If I knew what they all meant, and knew a little bit more about "logic", I'm sure you'd be guilty of some sort of fallacy.

"Real" atheism is just not believing. You can dance around it all you want, but that's all it is. If you think those morons listed above actually do believe, and are faking it, that would make them "not real atheists". Other than that though, they are the real deal.

It is interesting how this thread took such a turn. It's almost like some people want to change the subject. "Hey, let's badmouth the people who don't believe in god, instead of discussing the religious authorities who rape children with impunity".

I grew up roman catholic. I remember meeting mormons in college and thinking 'they're like christians, but take their beliefs seriously, how delightful!

I was born a RC, grew up an RC had RC on my dog tags. But our family left the church when I was about 10.

One of my college room mates was a Mormon. He was the best designated driver anywhere. The last time I saw him, he gave me a book of Mormon that he signed himself. I still have it, even though the contents themselves don't really resonate with me, it was a nice gesture on his part.

That is complete bullcrap. Anyone involved in a child sex abuse case shouldn't get immunity no matter who they are. He should want to testify to clear his name or atleast take blame for his wrong doings.

No, every religious leader cannot claim immunity.

Catholicism isn't a state. The Vatican is. I don't like it, but it's true. And there's only one solution. Conquer the Vatican!

From Times Online

Attacks on Pope over child abuse scandal are ‘akin to anti-Semitism’

So you'd all better stop what you're doing right now!!

I really don't know much about Roman Catholicism. Does the pope in some way act as a god or someone who can talk to a god? Is that what is taught? What do Roman Catholics think happens to other people that are not Roman Catholics when they die? Where do Roman Catholics go when they die?

It's not that he talks to god, but that he is the closest to god than any other human and has the highest authority in matters of faith, biblical interpretation, etc.

Jesus is the only path to heaven, though there maybe some loopholes involving purgatory and what have you. It's not very clear and RC's will usually just believe whatever the hell they want to believe.

Jesus died for your sins, so everyone get on board, cuz we're going to heaven baby! (maybe some purgatory, again, not very clear)

What makes him closer to god? I thought the pope was voted in? Is Jesus god? I swear I have no idea about any of this stuff. How did Jesus die for sins? What is that supposed to mean?

That was definitely non-intentional. That last line should have read pedophiles.
