Like someone else mentioned, she might be free to speak her mind, but we are free to not give her a platform to spew hate.

It's like banning a troll from CP. People don't have the right to behave however they want in a private forum. She was warned last time and ignored the warning.

Good on the U of O for dropping the ban hammer.
I would agree, but violence and threat of violence to suppress some one's right to free speech is almost as nazi like as Coulter's views.

The students and protesters in Toronto should be ashamed.

Oh come on, the speech was cancelled because someone pulled a fire alarm minutes before she was about to speak.

Officials probably feared for Coulter's safety.

As I said last night on this thread, it's people who throw pies and threaten violence that provide ammunition for her insanity.

On the news there were also fights, and threats to Coulter.

I was trying to make a funny by saying that they were afraid she would kill a muslim. Did you really think I was serious?

Except that she was booked to make an appearance.

And I thought universities were supposed to show open mindedness and be one of the great supporters of freedom of speech, and freedom of education.

And as much as I dislike Coulter, I'm ashamed of the conduct of the U of O, they have no trouble inviting other controversial figures to speak there.

Plus if they're going to support anti-apartheid (anti Israel) events, then they're showing a slant.

No. I didn't.

Well, it sounds like both our points are moot as bcb pointed out. I guess I should have read the link. The speech was cancelled because someone pulled an alarm, not because the university wanted to stop her.

In that case, Hitler won too. He sure got a lot of people's attention.

She has my attention. And I despise her more than ever. Everything the woman says is hateful, ignorant and inflammatory. I could almost respect it if she actually believed the crap she spews. But if what a lot of posters here say is true, that its all shtick, done to attract attention and make money, that just makes her a whore of sorts. She won't get my money.

And the kids on Jersey Shore, Levi Johnston, Octomom and the guy who said his son was floating away in a balloon that looks like a spaceship were all winning too.

I don't understand why the simple act of getting attention is considered "winning" anything.

Because that's what she lives for. It's how she makes money.

I recognize that she makes money doing it, but would you consider it winning?

People who will do anything for money -- degrade themselves, sell out their principles and any cause they might believe in and embarrass their own family are not winners even if they do get paid to do it.

There is such a thing as bad exposure.

You might think that, I might think that, but Coulter doesn't, she's an attention whore. She's getting what she wants, so, she wins.

Doesn't a winner imply there would be a loser? In the same breath, the university won as they got their name in the media too...no such thing as bad press right?

You're assuming the University and Coulter have similar goals, which I would guess, they do not. The University is not out to get attention at any cost.

Regardless...I just don't see the "winner" aspect...sure I guess she benefits but I fail to see how the university "loses".
