Certainly the Yanks, Sox, Braves, Mets, and Dodgers are the freespending teams, but teams like the A's, Rays, Twins, Cardinals and others have really shown that growing talent gives you a good chance at competing. No doubt the high spending teams have the edge when it comes to a better chance of succeeding, but part of being a fan is cheering against them and hoping any other team wipes them out.

I'm really looking forward to this season to start. I really don't understand people that hate baseball. It really is a great game to play and watch.

I don't think you can include the Braves in the free spending teams anymore, I think they are closer to the middle than the top in terms of payroll and have had to let go some good players the last 5 years.
But they do have one of the best prospects in baseball in Jason Heyward. Can't wait to see this kid play.

Plenty of teams with less money have competed with and beat the NYY and Red Sox.

Really? Like who? The Rays and the one lucky year? Get real, everybody knows every year it is the same thing, rinse and repeat.

Good post, thanks for the well written response and explanation. Some posters can do that on this board, others...well...

This is a thread for Jays fans about the Toronto Blue Jays.
Your post is about concept of being a fan of baseball.
The Jays have consistently been in the top eight of the league (AL), spend enough money compete, and have an excellent roster. The division is difficult but that means as a fan I get to see the highest caliber of baseball and the most talented players on a consistent basis in the regular season.
I believe pro sports benefits on the whole from dominant teams. Tiger Woods makes golf better because of disparity, not despite it.

Over the last 10 years the Yankees and Red Sox have won the title 2 each, that means that in 6 years other teams were better, including such free spending teams as the Diamondbacks and Marlins.
The Twins have repeatedly been a competitive team despite not coming close to spending as much as the big guys or even the Jays.
The Rockies, Giants, Cardinals have all been competitive with middle of the road salaries as well.
The Jays aren't out of it early this year, or other years, because of money but because the team has made bad baseball decisions and doesn't have much talent.

As much as people want to blame a lack of money for the Blue Jays success, the Jays got themselves in more trouble when they increased their payroll. The payroll increase is why they signed BJ Ryan, why they paid Vernon Wells so much, why they signed Frank Thomas, why they gave Alex Rios such a lucrative extension.
For the Jays that hurt because you can't swallow those contracts so easily and go get a productive guy to replace the guy you get rid of. The Yankees and Red Sox can swallow one of those contracts if they have to.
There was an artical last year and the Blue Jays and Mariners had handed out more bad contracts than any other teams in Baseball.
I still watch because I enjoy watching Baseball. I think going to a live game at a ball park is a fun experience and really the game itself is almost secondary. Plus on any given day anything can happen in that sport. One day Adam Lind can go 5-5 with 3 home runs, or Marcum will take a no hitter into the 7th.

Tallet is our number 2! Tallet!
I like the guy, but he is no number 2. That, and he is already stomped today by the Yankees. Tallet is a 4/5 guy at best.

Not sure how it matter who is the number 2 or number 3 or number 4 starter (Romero / Morrow or Tallet). They will all pitch around the same amount of games. I bet the order switches as they progress further in the year.
As for today's start Tallet was fine. Tallet gave up 2 earned runs / 1 unearned run over 5 innings of work. Tallet however gave up zero walks.
Tallet had a pretty decent spring training (not that it means anything).

Tallet was a solid starter last season for as long as the Jays were competitive.
I'm fine with him starting, as long as Clarence doesn't keep him there if he struggles.
