Just happened to finally find this thread and had Photon re-open it so I could give my side. I am the seller, I have no problem with my name being out there considering I have nothing to hide from.
I didn't see the original thread, so I missed which PMs that Nufy posted and can't really tell what has and hasn't been said.
I've sold things to Nufy before and he has been a fine buyer with no issues. I've dealt with tons of people on CP who can attest to that fact, hell Mike Oxlong got me the mortgage on the new house I just moved into.
If I wanted to sell something shady, I wouldn't do it at my house and on CP; Id sell it on craigslist and meet in a parking lot in the NE.
So here's the facts:
- I originally purchased the microwave from HomeDepot and chucked out the box (and receipt apparently) after I moved into my new house.
- Nufy was well aware of all of this. He knew it had no box, no receipt, and the current warranty status (still had magnetron warranty).
-Microwave worked fine and was tested prior to him buying it. Tests were to his satisfaction and the deal was completed (at my house no less).
What am I supposed to do when someone comes back to me 2 weeks later saying the item doesn't work? If the item was working when it was sold, how am I to know that he didn't drop it or otherwise bust it himself?
I offered him many suggestions as to what to do, including talking to someone at home depot, swapping it at HomeDepot (morally fun!), or even just calling up someone at GE and discussing it with them.
He was set on "getting it repaired by the tech" and demanded I pay for half the repairs. Sadly, my name is not Home Depot and I do not offer extended warranties on my sales.
Hell, I even offered to cover $50 of the repairs as a gesture, but he refused and demanded more. At that point I said adios and let him deal with it in whatever way he wanted.
Thanks to the vast majority of posters (Photon et al.) who let common sense prevail. I've said my side and I'll leave it at that.
