Let's see the list of bands whose music you enjoy listening to. I'm sure there are a couple in there that I or others could crap all over too. You don't seem to realize that whether NIN is good or not isn't a matter of fact, only a matter of opinion. I happen to love NIN.

You are the one who is a pretentious ######. That is a matter of fact, not a matter of opinion.

You're really missing the point. I think the right people got it. This thread was bumped for a reason. And yes, I am a pretentious ###### on occasion. I also have a strong sense of smug satisfaction.

The fact that you wrote ''they'' shows that you don't know enough about the NIN and I assume all the different music Trent has released to make a informed statement.

For anyone who thinks it's a bunch of electronic noise that all sounds the same go buy the album ''The Fragile'' and listen to some of the less popular songs. The guy is a classically trained pianist and the piano/keyboard work on that album is phenominal.

Like a lot of bands, the songs that make it onto the radio can often sound the same, but those that are less popular can sometimes be the best (and very different).

You also have to give the guy credit for pretty much being THE name in industrial music. No, he didn't create it, but he is to industrial what Nirvana was to grunge. Again, they didn't create it, but they popularized it and were the biggest name in it.

And for those that compared NIN to Nickleback, wow, I don't even know where to begin on that one. And that's not even a slam against NIckleback as I've defended them a little as a no thinking but fun option in music, but...

I never enjoyed NIN much until I saw them last year at the Gorge, great show and he has a ton of energy. I still don't listen to them much but I respect him more than I did. Can't say that people are right in cutting them down (any music for that matter) because they don't enjoy it. Name a band and I can find something brutal about them, no question about it.

The reason I quoted this though is because you say Trent Reznor made Industrial popular, I think Ministry who has been around since 1981 might have something different to say about that. Al Jourgensen probably influenced Trent Reznor to some extent.

No, Matt Bellamy is exponentially better than that. Perhaps Reznor is a poor man's Time Rice-Oxley?

Hmmm. Something tells me flameswin knew I was on "vacation" and that I was viewing but not posting. Even my friends were bugging me about how much it must have bothered me not to be able to post.

That is the essence of arrogance assuming we even noticed you were gone.

NIN is like Tarantino to me. Personally, I think its absolute garbage, but I respect others people right to enjoy what they like. I think my dislike for them may be amplified though due to the way a lot of their fans approach conversations about them. What is with the need to always throw your their opinion about NIN and Tarantino in anybody who does think they are the greatest's face? I work with a ###### who constantly tells everyone how NIN is the greatest thing since sliced bread. One time I told him I didn't agree but to each is own and he felt compelled to tell me I knew nothing about music. I'm classically trained on the piano. Outside of rock band, this ###### has never picked up an instrument. Clearly I knoiw nothing about music compared to him.

I just just get the "I like something different, so I'm clearly more knowledgeable/righteous than you" vibe off them. Rubs me the wrong way.

Vacation? Where'd you go that CP would block you from posting? North Korea? Nigeria? Iran?

Yeah you are right. It is just a coincidence that he has been bugging me about NIN for like a year now and then like 2 days after I leave there is a thread bashing NIN.

I guess that makes me your typical arrogant NIN fan...

I doubt he ever heard of them - Rick Rubin brought him the song, and he made it his own.

More like NIN digs Johnny Cash for making one of their songs a huge success.
