Do tell, do tell

I'm completely happy with my choice of car, and am having some fun with it.

Don't know why you have to bring the serious into it all of a sudden. Did I have bad grammar at some point?

Agree to disagree then.

When I get the chance and the money, this will be my car.

I have an 06 Rav4 and I wonder if this is going to kill the resale value on it. My mother in law phones my wife yesterday freaking out about how all Toyota's have been recalled, she saw it on the T.V. news. Of course if you do the research it's only a few of the recent models. But my guess is unless you actually own one of the affected models, it's just easier to assume the entire brand is NFG and driving one will kill you.

To be honest there is nothing wrong with the cars overall. The media tends to hype the crap out of things like this but its forgotten within a couple years. Anyone remember Ford Explorers with the Firestone tires? They killed a lot more people and Ford's reputation returned over time. This is what happens when you replace critical components with new technology and try and mass produce it using the lowest bidder.

Even though I am a non Toyota fan myself, that is my fear. I have friends that work for Toyota stores, and they are stressin right now. There will be mass hysteria over this because of a lot of misinformation. We have already taken an '09 Rav 4 on trade because of someone panicking.

A supposed accelerator issue almost bankrupt Audi in the mid 80's and as mentioned before, it ended up being more user error than anything. The one good thing that came out of it was "shift lock" on all automatic cars. So maybe this will help mandate a similar feature where if there brake presuure applied for a certain period (a second or two) while the car is at sustained throttle, it will automatically cut the engine or something. So likely a new safety feature will come out of this which isn't so bad.

Also those that are running down drive by wire systems... they are infinitly safer than throttle linkage designs, where as they eliminate the more common problem of cabble breakage, kinking and seisure. I work for VW, and that was one of the primary reasons sited for the change over starting on 98 Beetles and Passats, then carrying into everything MK4 and beyond.

If it stops the 2-footed driver too, make it so!

Is that what instigated the recall? I didn't listen to the link... if it really is a 911 call before a bunch of people die in a crash, I'd rather not hear it.

This started the argument about floormats initially, but I think it will end up being connected with the current issue. Yes it is the actual call. It was a police officer and his family in the car. It is pretty spooky, but all you hear is people panicking in the car, accelerator is stuck, we are doing 90 MPH and accelerating, brakes have failed, someone says pray to god, and the line goes dead.

You couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not about to bust out pictures to have a "who's car is better looking" competition.

What is sad however, if that this has to be explained to people. If we have to tell people what to do if their accelerator sticks, we really need to look at our driver education system as whole.

I had a throttle stick on a motorcycle at about 190 kph once...... that was scary. Even though it was instinct to hit the kill switch, at least it was an issue is addressed in pretty much every motor cycle training program.

Quality of Toyotas hasn't really gone down, just the others have caught up. It's a shame every single vehicle they offer is ugly other wise I would consider taking a look. Also, they have no coupe and I was in the market for a 2 door since I'm in university and rarely have anyone else in my car. So now I have a Cobalt that has given me zero trouble and goes like stink, but looks like a rental. Nobody bothers me.

Another Toyota recall. This time it's the 2010 Tacoma truck.

Quote:
Toyota is voluntarily recalling approximately 8,000 four-wheel drive Tacoma pickups to fix a potential problem with the front propeller shaft, a Toyota spokesman said today. The issue: a crack can develop in one of the joints that may lead to the driveshaft separating and falling away from the truck, causing the vehicle to lose control.

yeah, how come we never hear so much about north american recalls. Ford has the most recalled vehicle in history with the Focus ( i think). And there are recalls all the time on all manufacturers. It seems like vehicular propoghanda. I say good on Toyota for trying to improve their name and product. accountability

I think you mean Honda. Anyone who would consider buying a Toyota would prob switch to a Honda before a Ford or GM car.
