The new 2010 Prius has a Power boost now, so when you floor it allows for full acceleration. Now you get to from 50 to 70 mph in 4.1 seconds. Significantly better then any of the cars you listed. And if you set it to Eco mode then you can still get there in 5.8 seconds. Which still meets or beats all your comparables except the Altima.

The other thing with electric cars is that they are more quiet. Although some sadists love driving around making as much noise as possible.

Do you have a link to back that up? The link I provided earlier was for a 2010 Prius from this article and it rates the Prius at 6.8.
If it does indeed have a 50 - 70 acceleration time of 4.1 seconds, that is impressive.
I wonder what year You Need a Thneed's Dad's Prius is. I think if he was using a "power boost" feature he would have mentioned it.

It's the older style. 2008 I think? Either way, it'e 50-70 time is easily enough. If you "need" to do it faster than that, you shouldn't have been passing in the first place.

Except I don't live in Calgary and would actually have a need for an SUV.

There are three driving modes: EV, or all-electric, with a very limited distance at 25 mph or less (if there's enough juice in the battery), most useful for underground parking garages (or maybe your teenage son taking his girlfriend home late); ECO, which minimizes fuel consumption by reducing the throttle opening and restricting the air conditioning; and Power for full acceleration.
The difference between Power and ECO is 4.1 seconds from 50 to 70 mph, versus 5.8 seconds

Did they purposely make the cars a little louder so people knew there was a car coming nearby? Or was just a silly rumor?

That's good to know - thanks for looking it up.
Great feature, but I'd hop in and press the power button everytime, thereby making it pointless for me to ever own a hybrid lol.

Honestly, why not just buy a proper petrol engine, considering I am not driving a Endurance race to school.

And why the hell would I buy a A4 TDI and not the FSI 3.2?
|
First you complain that people shouldn't drive diesels because they are weak, or whatever your reasoning was, and now you complain that they are too performance oriented for you, because you don't need race car performance.
There are lots of people that crave performance with fuel economy, and modern diesels provide that. Look at the numbers the BMW 335d is putting down. It's an impressive car with great fuel economy.
The 3.2 FSI engine was so useless they have dropped it from their lineup. The 2.0T made it redundant. FSI engines are having massive problems with carbon build up.

I like SUV's, currently drive a pathfinder but have been looking at those newer fuel efficient crossovers from GM and Chev, Equinox or GMC terrain. Sound kind of appealing although I've never seen one in person. Saw a GMC acadia, that looked alright.
Anyone know much? I do think I prefer the more trucky ones, Pathfinder, Xterra, Jeep styles.

I was given an Acadia and an Enclave (the buick version of the Acadia) on diffrent occasions for rentals, and they were pretty good.
They drove well on the highway, weren't too bad on gas, and had AWD wich is a plus. I have no idea if they're a good value, as I wasn't buying them and have no idea what they cost, but they seemed like they'd be pretty good daily drivers.

They're experimenting with different noises right now. Electric cars should actually be very quiet. I was just referring that for some people that may not be a good thing, since they like to drive their motorcycles/cars at ear shattering decibel levels.

Yeah the AMA exlusive home owners will replace it if stollen, not if I hit a tree though. I lock it up any where down town without worry-no one will get far without the battery which I charge at my desk.

Actually, I commute on a motorcycle, every single day of the year. It gets better mileage than almost any car, and does 0-100 kmh in 3.3 seconds (suck it, car guys!).
The SUV is for when I need to drag the dog around.

Thats rediculous. Try passing on the 2 lane with that bucket of junk between here and Kelowna. Its a sure fire way to end up a hood ornament on a Peterbilt.

The bike itself is a run of the mill entry bike, a specialized hard rock.

So was it a kit you bought and wired up yourself? Any pics?

I would hate to have a quiet car. Ear shattering decibels is a bit much, but I love a little engine roar on a sports car. It's a must.

Me and the wife bought a 2010 Equinox. We were looking at a base Rav4 and basically on a whim decided to at least go see the 2010's after hearing some good reviews. We were sold, the equinox is just so much more refined and alot more features for the money vs a base Rav4. The Rav4 had hubcaps while the nox came with 17 alloys.
The 6 speed tranny allows me to cruise at 110 at just over 2 grand, and its a 4 banger!
