It depends. A lot of the "lesser" hockey powers have to loosen the rules in order to field a halfway decent team. Germany, for instance, has 4 Canadians on their team. I would imagine that those players only need one parent that is German-born in order to eligible for the team.

The girlfriend and I are going to try and get out early on Saturday and get in line for the ZipTrek line. We're thinking about getting on the SkyTrain at 8:00 or so, and go from there. I expect Saturday to be completely and utterly ing nuts.

Funny thing I noticed the other day while at work... So all of the HBC clothes made for the Olympics are named after some Olympic competitor (Foote, MacEwan etc.) Anyways, there's Canada branded baby onesies that are made for the Olympics, and the name they're branded... Crosby.

You mean Cheryl Bernard. http://www.ctvolympics.ca/curling/ne...tml?cid=rsstsn

Hope everyone has a great time at the Olympics. I'll be trying to catch some of the coverage while in Mexico.

Well looks like our plans maybe resurrected. A couple nights for 200 in langley shouldn't be that bad... hopefully.

Anyone who lives in BC wanna help me out? Is it too far to cab it from the furthest sky train spot?

I'm not even going to watch the Olympics on TV, let alone go out to the "wet" coast to see them.

Or hold German citizenship....Someone with dual citizenship is just as much Canadian as German technically.

There are plenty of non-Canadian born atheletes on our own teams.

Hate to burst your bubble (I'm not too familiar with the Olympic format, so I could be wrong), but Canada could earn a bye and go straight to the semi-finals, no?

No. How I understood it is that the top seed automatically qualifies for the quarters while the rest play-off for the final spots.

Canada has to win 6 games.

RR 1 - RR 2 - RR 3 - Quarter - Semi - Final

Or if they don't come in first (ahem... '06)

RR 1 - RR 2 - RR 3 - Playoff - Quarter - Semi - Final

This is correct, but you don't need to win your group to get the bye to the quarters. At the end of the RR the teams will be seeded from 1-12 based on points earned (and assorted tie breakers), the teams in places 1-4 go directly to the QF, teams 5-12 go to the playoff (5 v. 12, 6 v. 11 etc.).

So at least one second place team is getting a bye (I don't have time to work this out, but I think with the point system a team could conceivably win their group and still finish 5th).

Yep, it's possible to win your group with 6 points and also possible to finish second with 7. If one group winner only has 6 points and the runners up in the other two groups have 7 points the group winner would go to the playoff round. I don't believe there's anything that says group winners take priroity over points earned.

Wow, just got back from the torch relay at UBC. Its amazing how something as simple as a torch can stir up so much emotion. The packed streets with everyone decked out in the colors of their home country, people chanting.. it only lasted a few minutes but it was such a great rush.

Is it only the Summer games where the torch goes around the globe?

You should ask where the nearest Papa John's is.

Okay?? What do you have against the Olympics, exactly?

I'm personally pretty excited for watching as much Olympics as possible on TV.

didn't see it at UBC but it ran by my house at like 5:00 and the street was packed

really cool to see all the people cheering and chanting

the coke vans in front of it blasting lady gaga kind of take away from the experience though
