Well, things happen in 3's, so I'm scared to find out what the third thing to happen will be. Maybe I'll get hit in the face with a puck tonight at hockey. Or my car will spontaneously ignite and blow up with all my gear in it.

Damn. And you never even got to find anything with your awesome new metal detector.

At worst, I thought the kids could have something to play with up at sylvan lake, trying to fine treasure in the sand. Now, some crackhead has probably pawned it for $20 and is now getting stoned on technically my behalf.
I hope the $3 in the coin box was worth it too. Yet you didn't take the tims card worth $20 that was sitting right next to it.
I guess I won't even leave anything in the car from now on.
However, I am thankful the car was not damaged (so far as I can tell)

No, but you can get rid of cotton mouth and maybe the munchies...
Are those symptoms associated with crack use?

That's only true if you don't consider those breakfast sandwiches to be a form of crack.

Plus, you know it was someone on Cal Puck. No way anyone else is looking to score a sweet metal detector in January in Calgary.
Jeeze - at least you're getting all your bad luck out of the way early this year.
I'd recommend the "kid swarm" approach. Put up lots of flyers with an offer of cash for the ring - no questions asked.

I can just picture that poor manning the gas station jumping on the phone to call one of his buddies "OH MY GOD!! There is some crazy white guy outside my gas station firing a flame thrower at the snowbanks!!!"

Went back and immediately checked when I put my hands in the snow, and wasnt there. I expanded my search, nothing. Looked everywhere. It's so mucky and slushy now that everything's melted, I can't see a thing. I should note that I may have shook my hands to get residual snow off my hands... who knows.
Went to home hardware, got some metal mesh and began shovelling snow into the mesh and sift... no luck. Guys at HH didn't sound too confident that a metal detector would detect white gold...
Other than waiting for the snow to melt, any other suggestions?

You should go pour a bucket of water on the area, that will get rid of the snow while you look

You need to find a spot on the ground that has no response from the metal detector. Next, take several shovel's of snow and pile in the 'no metal' spot. Detect that spot, repeat until you find what you are looking for.
I too have lost my original wedding ring, but as a guy I did not spend much. My wife is a different story altogether...she certainly couldn't replace her ring.

I thought the metal detector was stolen by this point in the story?

So, obviously the wife knows the story right? What is her take on the situation?

Yes i did. Sorry I didn't reply immediately. It's basically useless because there is so much debris around and with the underground tanks, the metal detector goes crazy everywhere. It was a lost cause to begin with. Thank you for the offer, however.

She's disappointed, but not angry. It wasn't on purpose. She knew it was a loose ring in the winter. We had actually tried to go get it resized but the jewelry store we bought it from talked us out of it, saying it was fine. It wasn't crazy loose, but only became a problem when my hands became cold/wet, it would slide right off. So I take full responsibility for losing it, but what can you do. It's gonzo.
