Jamey Johnson - In Color
Jamey Johnson - My Way to You

Waylon - I've Always Been Crazy
Merl Haggard - Mama Tried
Merl Haggard - Sing Me Back Home
I got him too. I just thought my list was getting too long. Jamey Johnson just played at Willie Nelson's Farm Aid Concert a while back.
And I have to agree with you on Waylon. He's a true legend.
Yeah, you can watch the concert online. I already gave it a spin. He's mesmerizing to watch even on the computer. Can't imagine ever seeing him live.
Waylon just tops them all though. Seriously, I've replayed 'The Lonesome Song' at least 10,000 times over the past couple years, and it still can't beat Waylon.
He's a legend in ways that legends were really made. Nobody is ever going to replace the music he made or him as a person.
Hey Stranger ... my favourite version of The Road Goes On Forever is by they guy who wrote it, Robert Earl Keen. In fact, Robert Earl Keen has a boatload of good music. His two Christmas songs are absolutely hysterical.
I'm not knocking Ely or The Highwaymen ... they're great too. I especially like Ely, and even better, The Flatlanders, with Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmour, Butch Hancock and whoever their musical saw player is.
Something new I just stumbled on to that I think you might like based on your two lists is the new Steve Earle ... it's an entire album of Earle doing Townes Van Zandt covers. The album is called Townes. He has some pretty good musicians helping him out too ... Darrell Scott and Tim O'Brien are a couple, and his wife, Allison Moorer. His son, Justin Townes Earl, is on the ablumb too. Speaking of Townes, the song of his that slays me is Tecumseh Valley, particularly the Nanci Griffith version. It's not on the Townes album, but Earle has covered it already on an older album. Earle's version is good, but Griffith's version is on an entirely different plain.

Although Jamey Johnson does come close.
I read Waylon's biography a couple of years back. If you are a fan of his you should really give it a go. He lived quite a life. From picking cotton to Buddy Holly taking him under his wing, from his take on the "outlaw" movement to the Highwaymen. Great read. You could probably get it for cheap on ebay.

I'll have to look some of them up. I've heard Earle put out a Van Zandt album. I've just never got a chance to download any of them. Earle I know was a huge fan of his and even named his son after him.
The Wanderer - U2 w/ Johnny Cash
Charlotte - Booka Shade
Great Salt Lake - Band of Horses
Last Train Home - Lostprophets
Nervous Wreck - Supertramp
Weekend - Sea and Cake

If you're not familiar with Robert Earl Keen or The Flatlanders, I highly recommend them. Live At The One Knite is a good starting point for the Flatlanders. Guy Clark, who was also a good friend of Townes', is another who kind of fits into that whole crowd. The common link between Townes, The Flatlanders, Clark and Keen is that they're all from Texas from around the same era. Lyle Lovett was another in that group of hoodlums.

on my iPod currently, nice list I might try out some of the other songs
Darrell Scott is definitely in my top 3 artists of all time. Here are two from the Transatlantic Sessions 3 DVD/CD. Darrell played 3 songs, IIRC on that DVD which included a bunch of celtic/folk/etc musicians. Anyway, playing with this big house band and the harmony gives me the bumps of a goose.
