Hughes (?) didn't necessarily know where the 1st down sticks were. You tackle first and find out yardage later. I don't consider that a bad play, just a blown call.

Cortez has that mentality that the defence will not dictate his play calling. It nearly cost them the game in Toronto last month and this time they were up against a better team. I'm pretty down on his work this season.

That was the key, Porter faking like he took a head shot. As soon as the official saw that, get tossed the flag.

Bad calls aside (and there were a few on both sides), I happened to come along the Stamps secret playbook/game plan for this one:

  • Rack up almost as much yardage in penalties as you do total yards offence.
  • Drop balls (I am looking at you Brett).
  • Secondary, play like you are still in High School.
  • Offensive line, whatever you do, don't block the guy across from you or anyone blitzing or stunting.
  • Really, just play like a bunch of uncoached, undisciplined, and unprofessional thugs.

That official is going to feel like a jackass after he sees the replay of how he got totally played by Porter.

Cortez is a terrible O-Coordinator.
D needs to stop rushing 3 men on 2nd and long...UGH
Receivers cant catch the ball.
Tackling and downfield coverage is terrible.
Reffing is a joke

Why do Stampeders defensive backs not look back at the football when it's in the air?

Pathetic offense, too many dropped balls, way too many penalties really killed the Stampeders tonight. They don't deserve to win this game at all. Calgary beat themselves.

Penalties. Way too much!!! I thought they cut down the penalty minutes in the last few games but tonight were just brutal. Way too many roughing the QB penalty. Defense played well early in the game but sort of went back to earth after. I don't think Porter played a lot better in the 2nd half at all.

Burris threw for 13 yards(??) in the first half and ended with 126 yards at the end of the game. I wouldn't blame him 100% on that bad passing yardage. Thelwell dropped a sure catch in the first half. If he caught that ball that was over 30 yards catch. Brett Ralph also drop the ball and he too could have gain over 30 yards plus a TD on that drop. Jon Cornish dropped a couple. Even though it was a short gain, it was important because both of those drop would mean a first down. The only thing going for them is Joffrey Reynolds running the ball. Buirris also have some success when he ran the ball. As for catching the ball, Jeremaine Copeland is the only receiver who did not drop the ball.

Special Team, Burke Dales have some ups and down but I thought he played well tonight. He was angling the ball very well. The only mistake he made was the blocked punt. But that wasn't really all his fault because there were 2 or 3 people coming after the ball. Titus Ryan been playing crap in the last few games. He's been dropping the ball way too much and rarely gain a lot of yardage. Bad concentration and bad decision on his part. Man, oh man... 3 times DeAngelis missed a field goal this season and all 3 of them are losses. Ron Amadi, what the heck is this guy thinking touching the ball at the end zone. He's been playing in the league for 10 games already and I am sure he should know the rules by now.

Something about Hamilton game in September, October or November that bring strange feelings for the Stamps.

That's a losing battle, you can't go out there and dictate the way the game is going to go, play after play, game in and game out. You take what is given you, march down the field and wear the defense out. Toss in some long plays to keep the defense guessing, and relying on the always steady Reynolds, you have a good chance to win every night.

It is a huge advantage to have several drives that take up 4 or 5 minutes and end up in a field goal or major. You take away time of possession from the opposition, and you wear down the defense. That's pretty basic football.

Let me guess, Higgins will apologize again that the ref blew the call. What's the use Higgins' apology when the refs keep blowing the calls on an important time of the game? Those guys never learn anyways.

Burris actually played pretty well. He didn't make a lot of bad throws and didn't make poor decisions.

It's pretty tough to play QB when you hit guys for easy catches. The Stamps must have had 7-8 drops - at least 4-5 were routine.

Sounded like Thellwell is gone for the season with a possible torn achilles. Bad news all around tonight.

I'd be upset but really you could see it coming last game. They barely squeaked it out despite playing a very mediocre game. Followed by this sad effort.

I was hoping for some d-line improvement tonight. Have to wait till next game I guess.

They just had no intensity tonight at all. Combine that with ineptitude and the result is a very boring outing.

That's a huge injury as Thellwell has been the solid #3 guy as none of the new receivers have stepped up and Ralph's confidence is shot. It's going to be tough to win the Grey Cup with only two reliable receivers. I like Huff and all but the team has had way too many games where the effort and execution just hasn't been there as well they have been very undisciplined nearly leading the league in penalties. He's going to have to take a long hard look at his assistants in the offseason as while I like Chris Jones the defence has taken way too many personal fouls this season and have lacked discipline since opening day. It's good to be aggressive but penalties on the defensive side have cost this team dearly.

That was aspiring to a Winnipeg-Toronto tilt level of suckitude. That dropped pass by Ralph in the end zone was the difference in the game though, score there and I think the defence would have held. It has to be demoralizing to play that well and have zero support from the other side of the ball.

This is the kind of game - like the one they lost to Winnipeg - that you want to burn the game film and forget. They need to crush the Ticats when they come to Calgary to show them that this was an aberration.

Yes they got away with not having Rambo because Copeland really stepped it up. But they need another guy out there. Let the airlift begin.

was at the game...if you can call it that. Took a buddy from New Mexico to see the good ole CFL. Mistake. Should have gone to the Kitchener Rangers opener instead!

Stamps were BRUTAL. Cats were barely above BRUTAL.
Just a horrible game with no flow, no inspiration, whatsoever.

TON of Stamps fans in the stands...was mildly surprised.
