It's not about how much hair you have to cut upstairs, its about how much you can shave into a sweet pattern downstairs.

Why do women like it short? All the guys at school/my age have short ######baggery hair. It is really that nice? I mean, does having 16/20 guys in a room with fauxhawks really look good? Not that mine is "better", my graduation picture is a joke, I look like a hippy. I'd post it, but I may give someone a stroke by them laughing.

I guess the only reasonable thing to do is to fauxhawk it:

You can have longer hair without looking like a ######, just need a good cut like Witty says.

I like longer hair.

Any trends to stay away from witty? Besides the fauxhawks, and tribal designs inscribed into the side of my head... I still don't get that whole thing.
I will never understand the designs shaved into the head. I just don't get it at all.

And I've got to admit, I don't hate the fauxhawk look, depending on how it's done. My best friend has some issues with thinning hair, and a very shortly cropped fauxhawk works best to mask it.

It all depends on the guy. That's one of the biggest challenges in my profession, teaching people that every person has different problem areas, different issues with their hair than everyone around them. Because a haircut that'd look fantastic on say, Katie Holmes, could look like hell on someone else. But people don't want to hear that, they want you to smile and nod and say "Oh yeah, that'll look greaaaaat," when you know it won't.

I still believe one of the best things to have is a stylist you trust, because they'll tell you if you're looking at a cut that'll look stupid on you. It's all dependent on face shape, hair type, hair density, lifestyle, etc. A bunch of factors go into one hair cut--it's not quite as simple as some people would lead you to believe.

Too bad, I don't live near you Witty, a good stylist is priceless. I had one for years that I loved and she decided to quit, it took me forever to find someone I trusted, and I like her, but it's not the same.

Yes. I actually don't remember the cost, but I bought the clippers from Canadian Tire, so I just looked up the recent cost at Canadian Tire. Maybe they had a better model at the time I bought mine. I thought I spent closer to $60 but I could have been mistaken. I buzz my hair every two to three weeks with a #1. I've also done my son's hair a couple of times and my cousin used to borrow them as well. So the clippers have had good usage. I can't complain, they've done me well. Even if you have to replace them every year, you're getting your money's worth, not just on the cost of all the haircuts but, also on time and convenience saved. Time is a huge savings on buzzing your own hair.

And now that I think of it, I've been buzzing since January 1, 1999. My sister-in-law used to do it for me every couple of weeks, but I don't like her so I bought my own clippers after several months. I've probably hit the 10 year mark about two months ago.

I just started shaving my head ... kinda wish I'd started earlier. I actually save a good deal of money and I can wear a touque now without having hobo hair all day.

when i was in hairdressing school there was a guy who had long hair, and he got the back permed..only the back! in tiny tiny curls (yellow rods to those of you who know what im talking about)..and he kept the top and front dead straight..sad thing was he was really good looking and he thought his hair looked hot..and there was a man who had about fifty hairs on the top of his head that he swept over his entire scalp and he died them 'chestnut brown'..it was hard not to laugh every time he came in and you had to use about a tablespoon of color

And to think you don't learn new and interesting stuff on a message board...a hockey message board. I would NEVER seek out this type of information. Another reason why CalPuck rules.

Witty actually helped me. So thanks to her. Enough of these ridiculous hair styles. This is what I chose:

People who cut their own hair are on a different respect level for me.

You need a certain shape of head to be able to pull that one off.

Oh that is fantastic!

Shortly after I started at my current salon, another girl had a client come in, a woman, with a ridiculous femullet. She had the top/sides cut very short, and the back was halfway to her waist--and she had my co-worker perm just the top/sides of her head. It looked so ridiculous, but it's hilarious to think about.

What chick in her right mind would let such a person do her hair? If I was they type to grow my hair and have a 'do, I certainly wouldn't let a bemulleted barber do it.

No, my co-worker isn't the one who got the ridiculous hairstyle. She had a client ASK for the ridiculous hairstyle.
