You're kidding right? Why? theres alot of truth to that post. Says some things that epitomize American culture. To me guns and killing people, and the 2nd amendment are offensive.

Ah, isn't that too bad?
Because its offensive to me that you automatically place guns and killing people together, not too mention the 2nd amendment, which gives people the right to bear arms, but not to kill people.
I love my guns thank you very much.

Is there anything guns do besides wound and kill? If so, I am missing it. And if you don't like opposing opinions, that's too bad because you can pry my opinion from my cold, dead hands.

Remind me why I give a crap what you think about guns.
Is there a problem with going to the range for a few hours once a week and having fun?

Listen buddy, shove your opinion. Everyone knows that the 2nd amendment trumps the 1st amendment.

Because of this thread, I have lost my faith in humanity.
Not even because of the article but because of the over the top stupidity both for and against guns.
BTW the 2nd amendment was not designed to give every US citizen the right to have as many assault rifles as possible.
It was created because a bunch of paranoid founding fathers who were intent on preventing tyrannical government wanted to ensure the legality of militias so that if the government ever started to concentrate power or abuse power or act tyrannical or despotic they could legally revolt against their government and start over.
Instead the US presidential system has evolved into one of the most stable political systems in the world. Quite shocking really because most presidential systems have failed, especially in SA. The entire US system was designed to ensure freedoms of citizens couldn't be raped by the government, not so that people could walk around with assault rifles at presidential speeches.

That doesn't even make sense.
I don't understand why Canadians are so passionate or opinionated about this. Is it just to find fault in the US to make Canada appear to be a superior country? Regardless of which side of the fence you're on with guns, why discuss it so passionately? What about discussing Canadian gun laws?

Thing of it is....nobody has a clue about our gun laws. Most of the people that are so passionate about the 2nd amendment have no clue what the Canadian gun laws are.
Whether or not that is because the information is really hard to find online, or because people love to bash the US whenever they can is unknown.

The constitution controls the government, loosening or weakening the constitution makes the government more powerful.
One of the important limits on the gov't is that the congress must declare war before engaging in one.* The Iraq war "declaration" consisted of the members of congress granting the president the ability to engage in war as he sees fit. That is a very dangerous precedent and - similar to the 2nd amend. debate - shows the danger of considering the constitution a loose guide rather than a strict set of rules.
Myself, I would support a constitutional amendment but I do not support legislation like hand-gun bans because they are unconstitutional.
*grossly paraphrased, of course

You dont have a clue...
Alot of gun owners have memberships to shooting ranges, for sport. Some friends of mine even have their own skeet launcher so we go out and do that too, not to mention general game hunting. Guns can kill, no doubt, but that is the risk we take. An accident can happen at any time. Do you drive? Because cars can kill too..............and accidents happen so maybe we should ban cars too.

Another thing that I have always said in the gun threads on here, it would probably be a good idea that if someone is getting a CCW permit, they should have to go through a course.
We have to taking a drivers test to obtain a drivers license in order to be able to drive, and people who want to carry concealed weapons should have to go through a strict program that teaches them safety and evaluates whether or not they will go crazy in the future or not.
The testing in place now to get a PAL license here in Canada is okay, but its really easy to pass if you're not a moron to begin with. Anyone with half a brain of gun knowledge could pass it.
I assume they do the whole background check, but I wonder how much of the 8 weeks it took to get my license was wasted because the government loves taking their time to process stuff like that, and actually doing a background check and reviewing employment history, school history, etc, etc.

And the only reason it is still in place is because the majority of Canadians have no clue what it was for, how it was implemented, or how much the government screwed up with it.
Like I said....nobody has a clue about our gun laws.

While we didn't have to fight the British for our independence, we did have to fight off invasion attempts from the Americans.
As for the argument that nobody has died at a gun show/Rally...

The reason it is in place is because the majority of Canadians are in favour of strong gun control laws. It is a small, fringe minority of Canadians that are in favour of anything close to what the Americans have. That is why handguns have been banned in Canada since 1934, with the exception of collectors.
It is interesting that the Police are the strongest supporters of the Firearm registry. One assumes that this is because the police consult CFIS 10,300 times a day. But, what the heck do the police know about crime prevention....

The purpose of a car is transportation. If it kills someone/something, it is being used improperly.
If a gun kills someone or something, it is being used properly, oh, and with the extra added benefit of being able to do the same thing when being used improperly.
