Here's one question I have, does MNU keep the keys in their SUVs or how did they steal it so quickly?

Nerd roundabout answer: "uhh...biometric car starter?"

Saw this movie last night. Amazing is all I can say!

The first part had me thinking I should walk out and see another flick. I decided to stick it and am glad I did. Best sci fi film i've seen in a number of years!

The DVD and Blu-Ray came out a few days ago.

Just watched it for the first time. One of the best movies to come out in a long time.

I watched this on a plane, and gave up after 30 minutes. Was that a mistake, does it get better? What is so great about this film? (honestly asking, I think I'm missing something)

The first half hour is all plot and mostly shot in documentary. It soon switches to cinematic and sticks with it for the most of it. Not sure how to describe it because it is unlike almost every movie ever made.

The weapons are the best part. The one which shoots lightning and blows people up is so freakin awesome.

You really need to watch the entire movie.

Wikas also says f*** like 80 times in the movie.

I will pretty well watch anything on an airplane for lack of anything else to do. I've sat through some awful chick flicks...

That's why I'm surprised... I thought the first 30 minutes of District 9 really kind of developed the story and the main character quite well and had me looking forward to the developing plot.

That stuff about the movie being unscripted - much of it was. Most of Wikus Van De Merwe's lines were totally improvised along the way.

The guy who plays him has never really acted before aside from brief scenes in home movies / student film projects.

I watched it on a plane also last week and I liked it. Not a big fan or anything but it definitely helped me kill a couple of hours. I'd give it 6/10.

You are missing something. I don't know how to explain it. It was gripping from start to finish. The first bits half is exposition and more documentary / reality TV style but as the move goes on more and more things go wrong and it starts becoming a sci fi epic.

Just a 6? Wow. Not a big Sci-Fi fan or what?

The mech in D9 would kick the asses of all the mechs in Avatar. Loved that thing. Way, way cooler.

I honestly think that watching it on the plane might be what ruined it for you. Myself, I find watching movies on airplanes impossible. Too many distractions and other things that catch my attention. Plus the small screen doesn't help either. Give it another shot at home, I'm betting you'll enjoy it more.

It was my favorite movie of the year, and I am NOT easy to please when it comes to Sci-Fi.

Not a fan of the refugee camp metaphor?

Possibly, I actually watched it on those small personalized screens on the new Air Canada planes, which might have taken away from the coolness. I could see the style being somewhat interesting, but the way I saw it, after the first interview or two, I guessed the movie was going to be about how the (main character) gets killed, and the rest that was to follow was to see how he got killed. Then it was 25 minutes of interviews of what a good guy he was, military guys being jerks but they're always right, (main character) being a dweeb and a few battle scenes here and there, so I gave up. Seems like there might be a little more to it than that, so I might just give it a try, probably on a bigger screen than 7" screen.

Thanks for the replies, I will certainly give watching it again.

You're not even close to what the plot develops into. Not. Even. Close. Have to watch it, though, because I don't want to ruin it for you, but let it be known that the protagonist develops into something a lot more interesting.

Exactly what I was going to say. You can't watch an action movie full of visual effects on some tiny monitor. That's like watching Avator on a 12 inch regular def screen with no surround sound and saying you don't like it. No kidding.

Was actually surprised to see D9 all over Best Buy when I was Christmas shopping 2 days ago, didn't realize it'd be out that quick. I had to treat myself. Favourite movie of the year.

Cool movie. Sure it's been said a hundred times already, but not a surprise that there was some controversy about this in South Africa. Not exactly the most thinly veiled metaphor for apartheid. Awesome flick though.
