I figured it was just some fat cats in Washington chest bumping each other to make sure everyone sees that there job is worth the money spent.

You see alot of that down there were I assume its State Jurisdiction but yet Federal Lawmakers are yelling about something.

BTW I am sure its a bipartising chestbumping session.

I think the issue is that we don't really have an instinct to drop stuff. I'm not sure that if someone swerves up ahead of you your instinct will be to drop the phone.
Hm good point, when a person is suddenly has to swerve, their natural instinct would probably to have their muscles tighten, thus they clutch their phone while going for the steering wheel. I don't think I've ever been in that situation though.

Actually, if you do some shrooms while drinking, the booze doesn't even affect you.

Yes, that's exactly how it goes.

Oh wait, we're talking about the US government here.

Well then, carry on.

On a more serious note, banning the use of cell phones is just a ploy by the US government to get people to buy Bluetooth headsets because Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid own shares in numerous companies that make Bluetooth headsets.
I have to agree with Azure here. More often than not, there is an underlying motive for the government to meddle in things like this. Take Al Gores' global warming campaign for example.....he will make a kings ransom on this whole carbon trading/taxation thing under the guise of a cleaner environment.

Anyways, I see this texting law as a waste of time/resources. It will be extremely difficult to enforce. Now I don't own a cell phone but I wish people who did practised a little common sense instead of having our government make a stupid law for it.

Maybe an advertising campaign would work, or put cell phone use cautions in driver training material etc........

I could get behind this.

Why do we need a specific law for this, couldn't an officer get this under "undue care and attention" ?

I've done shrooms when drinking and let me tell you it does affect you, it is just harder to notice with all the hallucinating going on. Also, similar to coke, shrooms tend to tweak people quite a bit so it just seems like the alcohol isn't having the same effect.

There is alot of grey area with it though...........like Azure was saying a page back.......

You know what........how about we just don't drive anymore period. There are so many whackos' on the road who dont pay attention and can barely drive in the first place. If you ban texting/cell phones while driving, why stop there?

Lets ban eating while driving, coffee/drinks, Ipods, pets and everything..........The fact is that there will always be an element of risk in our day to day lives. I wish people would just quit bitching about everything.

Me too. The biggest whiners are the ones that are opposed to banning cell phones.

Al Gore is going to make a killing on global warming? You'll have to explain that one in a bit more detail, sounds ridiculous to me.

Gore has a company that sells/allocates the "trade" side of cap-and-trade and any legislation would (presumably) be very lucrative for him.

edit: first link I had was Fox news, so I kept looking. Is Canadafreepress legit?
