THat clip in the bathroom had me out of breath. The expression on the face suited it to a T.

I personally enjoyed the impression of McCain driving his hybrid car around during the monolouge.

I wondered with these shows whether it was just me that was the only one steadily losing interest. So I went and did a little research and indeed Leno and Letterman et. al. have seen their audience shrink. The stats I found show less people are watching late night TV and those that are are being split up into smaller groups. Comedy network grabbing some, the late night field expanding to various hosts.
So then the attempt by Leno to move into prime time. I read an article saying that he will get all the best guests as a result. Will that translate into ratings?

Outstanding to see my boy Larry David on there last night, that's probably only the 2nd time that I've ever seen him on a late night talk show. Interview wasn't as classic as when he was on Letterman a couple years back, but still absolutely hilarious. God bless the LD.

I know that I start to tune out these shows when the interviews become too predictable. This is something Conan is guilty of. He reads off his cards so that the guest can talk about pre-arranged stories or jokes.

that's why my main staple is The Daily Show. they have a much wider range of guests than other late night shows (there is only so much celebrity babble i can take) and Jon Stewart is an excellent interviewer
i also hate the monologues that every traditional late night show has, even Conan can't do a good one. don't know why he doesn't break from the formula a bit and go for something a little more original

If I'm rolling by and the interview is good or the skit/monologue is good I might stay for a few minutes. I'm afraid my viewing habits are very similar to a lot of people these days and why so many shows are cancelled. I have no patience anymore. I used to just sit and watch many years ago and I would give shows a chance. I'd sit through bad parts waiting for the next good scene. Now they have the time until the next commercial. Then I'm gone. Even shows I like if it's a sucky episode I start flicking channels.
I guess that's why it's so hard for new shows with a whole lotta people like me around whose finger is always poised right above the channel changer on the remote.

I watched the Daily Show, well... pretty much daily for quite a long time. It's lost some lustre for me lately though.

Oh definitely agreed on whoever said that there's only so much celebrity babble they can take. I basically grew up on Conan, but even back then I'd usually just watch for his pre-interview skit(which always blew away Leno's and Letterman's IMO), and then if I happened to like who the first guest was, I'd stay tuned.
I think the reason why I've watched so many of Conan's first shows from start to finish is partly due to curiousity of how he'll do on the Tonight Show, and also because I've been very impressed with his guest list so far. Norm MacDonald and Larry David within a week of each other is gold. Joe Torre was great on Monday too, and William Shatner should be hilarious tonight. Keep bringing on the good guests, and I'll keep watching until 1:30am.

Hahaha I never even thought about that! You're probably right. I have to get up early tomorrow so I wasn't sure if I'd see it tonight or not, but I'm definitely watchin now.

Yup, Shatner was great - pantomiming the peeing annecdote and then the vulcan greeting thing were great moments, and erecting the giant statue and the Kobe interview made for a great episode all-round. Every episode I've seen of the new show has been golden.

I think Shatner's "first guest" spot was bumped in favour of Kobe.

For those who didn't watch, Conan announced last night that Triumph will make his Tonight Show debut tonight.
