Just one thought, or maybe two, HOZ.

If it cost $100K to land a plane at an airport. Say you're doing a short flight with a ticket price of $200.00 and you have a giant plane that holds 500 people.

The revenue from your flight is $100,000.00, the landing fee alone being $100,000.00, how do you pay for fuel, pilots, flight attendants, security and turn a profit?

Obviously you haven't really thought about your numbers...

Furthermore, if the president shows people that it's okay to relax a little, and injects some tax dollars back into the economy, is that really such a terrible thing? At least all that money was spent in the US economy and not sent elsewhere as Bush liked to do by subsidizing/rewarding american employers who shifted their production overseas...

HOZ, are you really going to be posting these kinds of inane threads about Obama for the next 7 and a half years? My advice would be to stick to things that actually matter.

No you can't throw out the security costs.

The advance team was there 2 weeks before today setting everything up, and his personal detail was with him WHILE he was there.

It has nothing to do with being an "obamaniac"....... whatever that is, the reason people think your thread is stupid is because it is extremely misleading. According to the article they payed for dinner and the show by themselves, so really all we are talking about is travel and security, and IMO that is irrelevant. The reason travel and security costs are irrelevant to me is because Obama is the President, and when he goes ANYWHERE it is obviously going to cost a significant amount of money, and I would imagine that it also costs a lot of money when he goes nowhere as well.

Quote:
1. Super advanced 747 (with pilots) fly with rapter escort
It's not like they rent these planes, and I'm pretty sure all their pilots aren't getting payed per flight. The only cost is fuel.
Quote:
2. Week in advance panning to scout, cordon off dangerous roadways and to choose restaurant and show
They do that wherever he goes, and again I'm sure the President's security staff are getting payed even when they aren't planning for something like this.

The issue I have with your post isn't the amount (1-2 million) as I have no idea what the cost is, but if you are including things like security, pilots, planes, etc. you have to realize that this is money that would be spent regardless of whether or not they went on this trip.

And fuel would be a cost of about $17,000

206 Miles - DC to NYC (crows path)
5 Gallons - Fuel used per mile by a 747
1030 - Total gallons used on the one way trip
$7.99/Gallon - Cost for fuel for a 747
$8,229.70 - Total cost one way from DC to NYC
$16,459.40 - TOTAL fuel costs round trip

These are stats that have been looked up not just pulled out of my as...I mean hat.

(yes I'm bored and at work, I wish I was golfing not figuring this out )

Do you think the "advance team" where hired specifically for this night out? Even if he spent 99% of his time sitting in the Whitehouse these people would still be getting payed, so how is it relevant?

I thought of giving this thread 1 star, but feel it would be too high.
Can we redo the ranking system to include half stars for threads that are beyond even reasonable levels of crappy?

But these sites are pre-secured and separate from the general public both because of the costs involved, and because of the mass lack of control and danger presented to the secret service.
Not exactly apples to apples, but here's a list of baseball games attended by Bush during his presidency, at least 3 of which involve travel and are for no apparent (good) reason other than his love of baseball.

If the cost of securing a restaurant and theatre is high, what about a stadium?

No, the advance team goes anywhere Obama plans to go.

Which is why you can't just rule 'out' the security costs for this trip.

Obama doesn't go here....there is no advance team sent, and the cost for this ONE day, is less.

Of course, that doesn't matter, when you're talking about a multi-million dollar budget, and organization with the Secret Service....but it does cost money.

But let's say he goes to the theatre in DC, wouldn't this advance team need to visit it also?

There is no difference.

Security costs money in both places.

The problem I can see people having is that we're technically in a recession right now....so Obama doing something like this probably doesn't help his image.

It doesn't matter if Bush did it, if Clinton did it, if Reagan did it.....people don't remember that kind of stuff.

Perspective isn't exactly a strong suit of the general population.

Absolutely.

Advance team has the President's schedule weeks in advance of the actual trip.....and they're always there scouting the place out, making preparations, organizing everything....basically doing logistical work to make sure everything will go smoothly.

Trip to NY, theatre in DC, ballgame in Texas, oversea trip, trip to Camp David, trip anywhere......if it is a scheduled event(usually is).....there is always a Secret Service team sent ahead.

That's true, but sent or not they're still being paid. Advance teams aren't day laborers you grab down at cash corner.

FYI, NYC is buzzing about the visit. Every paper has it on the front page and people seem pretty excited about it. I haven't seen or heard one bit of negative spin on it, although I haven't seen fox news today.

Poor guy gets dragged by the old lady to see some artsy-fartsy play. Even worse: it's one of them plays that have, like, a "message" and no special effects or nudity.
