Went to the Seals game yesterday and had a good time. Hot dogs were just okay and the beer was too expensive ($6). That being said, I still had a good time and the weather was perfect. The Seals organization seems to have the right idea regarding promotions and contests on the field. Good game, too. The Seals won 9-6.

Sorry I'm a little late to the party, but I'm a Vipers fan and enjoyed reading the comments and insight in the thread.
I was at last night's game and there was an awesome row of hecklers in the yellow seats in section H (right above the visitors - the St. George Roadrunners - dugout). The hecklers were at least a dozen strong, and appeared to be doing their part to support the Vipers by buying a lot of beer.
A Vipers staffer started hovering around them, however, for reasons we can only assume were "cheering too loud" or "heckling too much." I was thinking the last thing the Vipers need to do is discourage anyone (let alone people buying a lot of concessions) from visiting the ball park. I told a Vipers staffer this as well.
That being said, here's hoping a person of influence with the Vipers is reading this thread because there are a lot of good ideas contained within. I go to a lot of games, but I'm one of the rare baseball fans in Calgary who just wants to hear the crack of the bat and the whistle of a fastball live. You guys are spot-on about selling the "stadium experience".
Also, not sure if I glanced over it, but the beer+brat combo is $8 now. It's lower than it was earlier in the season, but it's Labatt (not Big Rock) beer, and not a Spolumbos sausage, and not $7 like it was last season.

Thanks.
I just heard that a popular person in this thread, Peter Young, is no longer part of the Vipers organization.

Wow. Good news for baseball fans.
Maybe he can team up with Dan Orlich and create the cluster to end all clusters.

very good news for baseball fans. I hope they turn things around with his departure, but I'm sure it will take a couple years to fix damaged business relationships.
However, I'm sure moral around the Vipers office already went up ten-fold.

I hate admitting this, but I hope they take a few queues from what they're doing up the highway this season.
The Capitals seem to have promotions and deals galore. There's deals to be had for Vipers fans too, but they're either poorly advertised (like the Cosco coupons) or they're not a good of a deal as Edmonton has (their beer+brat is $2 cheaper than ours, and their beer is way cheaper as well).

Jesus... so long as they do it out of province, or to the Oilers or something.
I'm pretty sure those two could turn used bubble gum, a clothes pin and some belly button lint into a nuclear device that could level a medium sized city.
As far as promos go. the Capitals and Vipers should get together to work out strategies.
One thing that would be neat: Get the Flames and Oilers alumni involved to play a charity doubleheader in each city once a year. You'd definitely draw people in with stuff like that.
Frankly, the Vipers should extend an olive branch to the Dawgs as well... on their knees and begging for forgiveness.

Should we changethe thread title to 'Calgary Vipers = Work in progress'? That's huge news about the change at the top. Hopefully whoever else they bring in has enthusiasm and a good attitude.

That's a good idea.
The Calgary Vipers have the lowest attendance in the GBL this year, which is even more amazing when you consider the Yuma's team got replaced with Colombians two days before the season started. I thought that might have alienated some fans who may have liked some of the existing players. Nope, they're still out-drawing Calgary. Sad.
I've read that it's FREE T-SHIRT night this Friday the 26th. Woooooo!

If I don't hear about a promotion until i walk into the ballpark and they hand me a t-shirt, is it really a promotion? Still no promotions schedule on their website.

They are fixing the attendance problem in a real hurry this weekend. 1700, 3300 and 3000 for the series against Tucson. Beautiful weekend for ball, and some good games. Should be back to middle of the pack for attendance once Long Beach and Orange County actually begin to play home games.

Good point. The Vipers' website is a mess. You'd think it wouldn't be that difficult to put a promotions schedule online, but it appears the Vipers online team would disagree with you and me.
The Vipers do have a olde tyme paper version of a promotions schedule that you can pick up at their ticket desk, but (as I can attest to first hand), a little slip of paper is easy to lose.
From what I can remember there's a movie night coming up, two more games you can bring your dog to (and they handed out dog toys for the first "bark at the park" - so that may happen again), and some sort of Viperpod speakers giveaway, whatever that is?
If I get my mits on another paper promotion schedule, I'll do what the Vipers should and share it online.

Twas a perfect weekend for baseball, eh?
Lagging behind Yuma and Chico is attendance should be embarrassing for a city like Calgary. Heck, we should be crushing Edmonton in attendance, too. We have the better baseball team, after all.

Just reading your blog..."who heckles the home town team" Well that iss a good question. Some buddies and myself 2 seasons ago did not like Aaron McEachran's fine mustache and decided to heckle him. (At the time he was an all star) He then went 0-3 on the day and sent a vipers team official to come deliver us some free beers on him. We thanked him by heckling him even more for trying to buy our love. As he struck out the next at bat. The next 2 weeks he went into a slump. The vipers then traded him to Edmonton making it even more fun to make fun of him when he game to town. He coninuned his slump and was traded to Winnipeg, where they played the vipers for the championship. Again we went to the games in october freezing cold just to make fun of him. He had a horrible series even though winnipeg still won. He then dissapeared off the face of the earth.
Long story short its fun to heckle anyone because they actually can hear what you are saying and has a personal effect on them. Even though we may have ruind calgarys all star third baseman it provided a summer full of fun at the ball park and lots of money spent on tickets and at the concession. As long as you are having fun heckling your team or the away team is a great way to pass time and help support a struggling franchise. But of course since it is a family even heckling is only tollerated if it is PG and especially no swearing. Obnoxious heckling is not fun for anyone.

Do you honestly believe that your random heckling ended a player's career?
I wonder who the guy in Toronto was who heckled Vernon Wells a few years ago and is taking credit for his downward spiral.
