Bit early in the season isn't it? Gophers usually started popping up in the middle of June on our old land.

I suspect the lack of rain may have something to do with it as well as there may not be enough new growth to cause the population to spike. This weekends forecast should resolve things.

The last few years have been really damp in may and june compared to this year.

Heading back to the farm for the long weekend...will see what there is for gophers out there. Gotta get the Ruger 10-22 out for the occasion since my dad won't let me use his old cooey...love that gun.

I think if the Military was smart they would start a grassroots sniper program that would scout the finest gopher killers in the land. Such tiny targets sniped over pretty long distance.

I pegged a few via a scoped .22 from a decent distance and I felt like shifty from Band of Brothers

Wondering if anyone else was heading out this weekend or seen many gophers this year?? Supposed to be super nice and they'll be poking their heads up...plus I have a shiny new toy to try.

I don't hunt gophers... but you can usually have a good tab on gophers in our city by going to the Tim Horton Wendy's on McKnight. Usually pop up there first and then end up in the grass across the street by that ATCO? building.

Saw a bunch frolicking around a week or two ago. Maybe 6-8 in front of my car alone? (not sure about across the street or on other parts of that restaurant property)

The east end of downtown is crawling with them. I must see 200 on my walk in. They seem to be accustomed to humans as well, you could probably forgo the gun and just walk up and strangle them.

Wait... so you don't have animals or anything where you're worried about the holes on your land, you just want to go find things and kill them for fun?

That seems a little messed up.

Anyone ever eaten one? Always amazed that they're not more popular given they're a clean animal.

I imagine they would taste like rabbit?

I've eaten Cuy. Which is like a guinea pig that is popular in Peru.

It was like rich chicken.

I imagine a gopher wouldn't be that far off.

I haven't been out, but also need to try out my Ruger and burn some of my .22 stock. Drop me a line if you find somewhere to go and want some company.

Farmers are usually grateful for the help. And the gopher doesn't go to waste as something will come along and eat it.

Yep. Ignore the haters. Our farmer friends are super grateful for it.

I've got a new .17HMR Marlin xt-VSL I need to sight in and see what she can do. The .22 got serviced after 15yrs of reliable shooting. What Ruger did you get?

Will definitely send a PM if we do go out. Do the same. We had two spots last year that got sold and we don't have access anymore.

Haha...we do that at our spot out west as well. Will be going Sunday to site in the new guns and fire at some clay. No gophers there though.

Think of it as bait to bring in Coyotes for some .223 justice!

Haven't seen many gophers at all the last couple years.

PM me if you're going out to break some clay though. I have a "new" SKS that needs a workout.

Good ol SKS, the staple for every Canadian firearm owner. I really need to drag mine out for some range time.

Anyone here take part in the skeet shooting at CDTSA? I'd really like to get into some informal/fun matches.
