"On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God..."

And we did have to memorize the scouting laws which include:
"A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties"

It is likely different from troop to troop.

You see that stuff on Fox, CNN, newspapers, etc.. Its amazing how people can argue for not discriminating based on religion or race, but when its discrimination for people with no belief its open season on them.

Its no joke to say in America its more acceptable to be gay than it is to be openly irreligious, at least in many parts of the country.

Stories like this should raise awareness, too bad the media here in Canada makes nothing out of this, like I said before insert Jew or any other 'group' instead of Atheist and there would be massive public outrage, even IF the scouts had every right as a private organization to exclude children they deem unworthy.

That raises a question, in Canada do the scouts receive any public funding at all?

Racism amongst religion is as long as history, and anti-antisemitism amongst Catholics, Christians and Muslims is to this day evident.

Nazi Germany was a Christian/Catholic nation which supported, not surprisingly a theocratic type following of a leader 'sent from God' and the ground work was done by people of faith, the ground work of extermination.

You can't pretend that all bad things happen because of extremism in religion, even if the moderates aren't actively participating; they are not openly and aggressively fighting against that behavior.

I grew up in an atheist household and when I wanted to join the Cubs, the debate was, if the Scouts organization was just a tool to prepare us for the army in some useless capitalist war. Yeah, we were a little bit anti-war socialist too, well maybe closer to communism actually. Anyways I was allowed to join, as long as I understood their motives and I became the top cub in our town.

What point are you trying to make with this contribution?

Hitler being an atheist comes up every time. Even if it were true, and there is plenty of evidence that it isn't, what exactly does it say about Christianity if one charismatic, weak little man can convince 10's of millions of Christians to act like that? All in the name of God, to boot.

When they get a bit older and join cubs you could also 'accidentaly' sew their religion badges on upside down.
