I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Whoa, my speed doubled since last night to around 18000 kb/s. I ran the test three times just to be sure.

Was pulling more like 5000 just before the push (which I had to call and request BTW).

That's normal upload for non-Extreme.

Sweet! Just called Shaw and got them to repush my modem.

Test right before repush: 4.7 Mbps
Test right after repush: 18.9 Mbps

I have the regular Shaw High-Speed.

What does upload affect? (or is it effect?)

Will it make gaming substantially better if I switch to EXTREME??

The cable guy came around yesterday and replaced my modem but said he had to use a man bucket to change my connection from the highway. By the end of the day I still had no internet so after many phone calls offering help, he came back today and he had to replace my network card with one I had in an old burned out computer. He spent a lot of time getting it up and running and I sure appreciate his going beyond what I'd expect for a free service call.

Anyways here's my new speed from Seattle which for some reason is a little better than from Vancouver.

This is regular high speed, my ping has gone down from 86 to 18 and my speed has increased 5 or 6 fold.

Upload won't have an impact on gaming.. upload affects sending data, and games assume pretty low bandwidth so going from 500Kb/s to 1000Kb/s isn't going to have much of an impact.. if you run lots of torrents it will impact how much you can upload in a given amount of time.

Remember that Powerboost has been added to the High Speed package which will skewed the download speeds upwards.

Quote:
PowerBoost™ is a great feature from Shaw that allows you a 5 to 20 second burst of downloading speed by temporarily increasing your available bandwidth. Now you can download music, pictures, videos and small software updates even faster with Shaw’s PowerBoost.

You're right, it's affect.

Affect can be either a noun or a verb, but here you are using it correctly.

Increased download speed is the EFFECT of the recent upgrades.

Download speeds have been positively AFFECTED by the recent upgrades.

Of course to add confusion to the situation...

The recent upgrades EFFECTED by Shaw have positively AFFECTED download speeds.

My AFFECT is improved by the sweet, sweet download speeds I am getting now.

All of these sentences are correct grammatically, but the verb form of EFFECT means to complete, while the verb form of AFFECT means to influence. The noun form of EFFECT is equivalent to "result', while the noun form of AFFECT means 'demeanour'.

Learn it and love it!!

WTF is going on here? Why is everybody's DL speed so high?

Edit: I got 2100 in Vancouver and 2500 in Olympia but still, those are really really low compared to everyone else's.
