There is only one nuke in the game, that is from the manhatten project. Go to the city where you built the wonder, it should be in the list where you woild normally see what units you have in the city. Unless I have been playing too much CivRev and have forgotten about multiple nukes. However the game is normally finished before that stage when I play.

Ya I did that and didn't even see it. Although that was after 1am last night when I was spent, I haven't looked at it today. I may have just missed it. Thanks btw!
And ya this has been a long game(already 2005), I've taken a very passive approach. Its my first time ever playing(any of the Civ games, not just IV), so I'm just testing everything out and tryin to learn the ropes of the game, this one's more like a run-through. I'm still quite confused with alot of the stuff, but I've got an over-all better feel on it now. When I play next I'll probably take a much more aggressive approach.

In order to construct nuclear weapons, you need to have researched the Rocketry and Fission technologies, and have access to a source of Uranium, which is revealed by the Physics tech. Like in Civ3, before anyone can start building nukes, the Manhattan Project must be built first, whether it's by you or by someone else.
ICBM costs 500 hammers to build and is the only nuclear weapon in Civilization IV

though if the UN has been built, it is possible that a nuclear non-proliferation treaty has been passed, which bans the use and construction of all nuclear weapons
as a result I usually try to build the UN myself and never bring up the nuclear non-proliferation

Ya that's exactly what I did. I built it and am head of the UN, and I've purposely made a point to avoid the non-proliferation treaty. I'm sure my nuke's in Thebes(my capital), I was probably just too bugged out to notice it after playing the game for 5 hours straight. God bless Reading Week...
EDIT: Actually I just re-read your post, I dont think I have access to uranium yet, thats probably the problem. I just assumed that when the Manhattan Project was completed I automatically had access to nukes. Looks like I'll have to make this an old-fashioned ground assault. Haha too bad I have no strategy whatsoever. I have twice the army which is 10 times more advanced than theirs and I'm getting pummelled.

yeah, thats the graphic they developed over on civfanatics to represent the epic failure of tanks against spearmen in civ3. stuff like that is always so deflating.

What damage do the nukes actually do. The city hit doesn't dissappear, do a couple of buildings get blown away? Anyone had the nuke land on them?

Massive population and productivity loss in the city. In other words you go from a large city to a small village.
Plus on Civ 1, it damaged the environment reducing your ability to farm and gather.

Oh really? Damn, I thought I'd just have to drop one and it'd be game over, they'd surrender and I'd possibly even take over their civilization.
I seem to have alot of the in-house stuff down, I think my next task is to learn how to fight. As I said before, my military is vastly superior to my warring neighbour in every way possible(as well as have him badly outnumbered), yet I'm just getting my ass handed to me.

Actually, it's more fun that it's not game over. Once you start nuking other civilizations, the international relations become hilarious fun. I one time dragged out a game for an extra 30 or 40 turns to slowly nuke a civilization into oblivion over time while the other civlizations alternated between anger at me and fear... It was a great game.
RE: Fighting strategy. Make sure you pile up your units, and send waves. You don't really have to garrison your cities too well if you have clearly superior forces in most cases. I find that your transportation infrastructure is critical to winning battles in large land maps. (I.E. Have railroads as soon as possible for instant movement.)

Yeah, I became the Civilizations version of Kim Jonh-Il once I got nukes. I demonstrated on my nearest enemy by destroying his 3 biggest cities, 3 nukes per each. Then I went to each leader and basically demanded tribute, anyone who didn't pay, lost their capital.
It helped that I built a massive army, and a navy that comprised of seven carrier battle groups and a wack of subs.
In Civ 1, I was heavy into artillary units, they overcame the closer range stuff and were death during city seiges.

In Civ2 I was constantly bothered by the short range of the Nuclear Missile, so at one point I edited the config files to give it the Paradrop ability, and gave it about a 200 square drop radius. The only thing weird about it was that the AI started using it instead of paratroopers for capturing far-away cities once they'd been cleared out.

Civ II is my favourite game of all-time.
Civ III is also in the top 5.
AOE and AOE II are amazing games as well. I didn't like the third AOE, or CIV IV. They just didn't agree with me.
Like many people, I've spent a lot of nights playing Civ til the wee hours of the morning. Absolutely fantastic games.

Warlords is pissing me off! I had to turn down the difficulty level, and I'm still having trouble ekeing out the win. I've won once, and it was incredibly close. About 10 turns before reaching legendary culture in my 3rd city, all the remaining countries declared war on me. I had to fend off my three cities like mad, sacrificing a number of surrounding cities just to ensure I had enough D to hold them off long enough for the win. My only "successful" campaign so far.

So I finally had some time to mess around with Civ IV a bit. I'm totally a greenhorn, but awesome, awesome game. Does anyone have a prob with it freezing/glitching all the time though? I'm having to save every 5-6 turns or so just to make sure all my progress doesn't get erased when I have to inevitably re-start my computer when the game messes up. Since last night I've had to re-start my comp 3 times because of the game freezing. Prob with the game? Or my comp?(btw the comp's only a year old)

Do you have the latest patch for it? Like most sophisticated pieces of software, the shipping revision is just barely acceptable. I had good luck with 1.61, and 1.74 is the latest patch for it.
