It's a decent workout. I haven't really done any of the strength stuff but the aerobic stuff can work up a sweat. There's just so much variety that you're bound to find some activity that will work for you.

Originally, I wasn't doing any of the strength stuff on the Wii Fit. Just did some yoga for stretching and then right to aerobics. This time around, I'm adding the strength components and the overall workout is even better. Many of the Yoga and Strength elements are complimentary and are combined into pre-defined "workouts". Some of those plus a good dose of aerobic stuff (step, then boxing and then a run for me) and you have a pretty decent workout.

To suggest smoking in moderation is pure ignorance.

There are plenty of studies enforcing one drink of alcohol a day is perfectly fine, and of course alcohol is not inherently addictive.

FlamesAddiction mentioned the addictiveness of smoking, but even if, in theory, you could only smoke once in awhile, it will still have significant, negative effects on you. Every cigarette does damage, the same can not be said about one drink.

My bad, I'm just used to people trying to justify things like this.

Skipped going to the gym but did use my Wii Fit. It's been far too long since I've used it and my (in)ability to do the 'Tree' is proof of that.

I am currently doing a 30 minute swim and two 35 minute bike rides a week, along with some really small weights.

I want to get into do two swims a week, but time is such a big issue. Plus I like to have a cold beverage or two after work sometimes.

Working out is MUCH easier, especially cardio in the summer cause the weather outside is nice, and there is no hockey. May is the worst month for me. December is tough too.

If and when my knee gets back to where it should be, I want to at least one 15km run a week, one 30 minute swim a week, and one 35 minute bike ride a week. I like to get in at least 3 times a week. 4 is preferred though.

I started Weight Watchers Dec 1 and have lost 17.7lbs thus far. I want to start training this year to do a Sprint Triathlon next year and a few 5km runs this year (Mothers Day etc). The Heritage YMCA isn't that far away from my office, so I figure that's where I'll end up going. Anyone have experience with that location?

I wish I could like swimming more. It's the perfect activity for me since it doesn't put any stress on my joints. But it's so damn boring and you can't listen to your mp3 player when you're doing it.

I agree that going to the gym in the winter sucks. I hate having to come out to a cold vehicle that I might have to scrape off the windows. I don't like the half lockers that my gym offers which forces me to pack in (usually) wet shoes, clothes, and jacket.

My g/f and I are attempting the P90x workouts together.

Wow I can't remember the last time I was this sore!

I think it is going to help me big time.

P90X workouts are awesome.

Squats, Bench Press and Deadlifts are even better.

Lift weights people. The long-term side effects from a health weight lifting regime are substantial.

I started going to the gym back when I was a smoker (like 6 years ago), but it was pretty futile. After I quit, the difference was like night and day. The extra stamina makes it so much easier to get results and makes working out more tolerable/enjoyable.

It's funny because when I first quit smoking, I went through some weight gain like a lot of ex-smokers do. I remember my doctor telling at the time not to worry about it because healthy bodies come in a different shapes and sizes and that it is better from a health point of view to be a little overweight than to smoke.
Funny story. Guy Lafleur was a smoker. Probably a few packs a day. The Canadiens hired a trainer one year to take the players on a difficult run. Most of them weren't thrilled about it. They start off, and Lafleur absolutely tears out of the gates. The trainer tries, unsuccessfully, to keep up. The trainer is gasping for breath, gets back to the Habs dressing room after the run and there's Guy, having a smoke with his feet up on the bench.

I'm almost 7 years on the quit wagon now. It most certainly is a night and day change once you hit about the year mark. I can't imagine how good Lafleur would have been had he not smoked.

I quit smoking Feb 2, 2008. I had an insanely busy summer with work, and so I had to quit my soccer team, and never managed to play hockey this winter. I stepped on a scale in November and noticed that I had put on 25 pounds since February. I had never really varied more than 5 pounds from my standard weight since high school, so this was a bit of a big deal.

Luckily I have a nice gym at work, so I've been running 2 miles a day since the end of November. I've managed to lose 10 pounds, but it's no longer about the weight. Now that I've started running I've got the bug. I'm hoping to work my way up to 4 or 5 miles a day by the start of soccer season. Combine that with quitting smoking and I'm getting very excited with what I might be able to accomplish next year.

As for Eastern Girl, I would absolutely freak out if someone tried to talk to me while I was running. I have a pace and a rhythm and a frame of mind while I'm running, there's no chance I would be able to continue if someone was talking to me. Brutal.

The gym wasn't quite as bad last night as I thought it would be, but there were a lot of noobs there for sure... you could tell because they looked confused and were exercising in street clothes. I guess you have to start somewhere though.

A group of them actually ordered a pizza to the gym. I swear to god.... I'm sure they were doing kind of as a joke and for attention... almost to play up on the fact that they were noobs... but it made them look pretty stupid.

If anyone is interested in a free program you can do at home, check this out. I did it last Spring and will probably to again in a month or 2.

Also, just took a look at the WII fit last night for the first time. looks interesting, and I think I finally see a use for my PIP (which only works on different inputs).

also, if anyone has any ironmaster db's they are not using, let me know.

Does Exercise Really Make You Healthier? (Scientific American)

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=...se-really-make

The bottom line: couch potatoes may applaud the exercise naysayers but the bulk of research suggests that workouts make us physically and perhaps mentally healthier.
