Last winter, I bought a snow brush at Canadian Tire that is very soft. The brush material is very flexible, and each end is frayed. It is soft enough to not scratch the paint, and trust me, nothing touches my car either. I assume they still sell them this year. I think they were about $15.

Speaking of paint, does anyone know of a handwand carwash that is open? The one I go to on Richmond Road and Sarcee has been closed since Friday, and it generally is open even during cold snaps. My car is so dirty that if something does touch it, there will be some nasty scratches.

Before the game yesterday, I tried to get home going west bound on 6th ave trying to get to Bow Trail. I was on the bus for a full hour. We moved 4 blocks.

I got off the bus and walked over to the Marriot killing time till the game.

I suppose this is all a response to the people complaining about the raising of the taxes. Don't agree with us and we won't plow the roads.

Wow, I got my butt kicked by winter today. My stupid all-season tires have absolutely no traction in the snow. The fact that I drive a front wheel drive car with 260 HP only dug me into the snow. Freakin' sucked, my car is currently stuck by my friends house, need to pick it up tomorrow, slap winter tires on it.

I really feel like I should sell the TL and go buy an EVO or WRX, AWD would be awesomer right around now.

Well, Seeing as I was staying up for no real purpose, I was awake to see a snow plow drive past my house. The thing was only doing a skim job. It did not even remove 10% of the snow on the road, and you wouldn't even have known that it went by.

My street is rather insane to drive on because it's a slope that ices up with the only exit being up the hill, and they didn't even salt it or anything.

It's going to be fun if this continues through the winter.

Put winter tires on 16 inch rims and you'll have no problem. With proper tires,VSA and antilock brakes you will have no problem getting around in your TL. Nothing against the EVO or the WRX, but changing to AWD before you see what your present car is really capable of sounds a bit premature. Disclaimer: I'm an Acura guy...

Man, I took a Rex with winters on for a rip last night and it was pretty sweet.

EDIT: Rex = WRX

They'll warranty that.. The body should have a 5-7 year warranty depending on the model.

To the ###### driving at 2am going 90km/h with snow on 5 of 6 windows, who almost spun out on John Laurie while overtaking me, I hope you learn to drive at some point in your life.
Instead of trying to be cool and speeding in these conditions.

/end rant

I'll drive how I damn well please thank you very much.

Just kidding, I wasn't speeding in that part of town. I was down south at that time of the morning.

No but in all seriousness, you'd think that when people slide or start to lose traction, that they'd clue in and slow down a bit? Drive less recklessly? In this weather, with no cars on the road, I like to go as fast as I feel safe (usually a little over the limit on Crowchild/Deerfoot, but limit and less on roads that are covered in snow/ice) but when I come to bends in the road, and corners, I slow down. It's just common sense.

Yea, that's what I'm doing right now, well I'm ordering in the tires now, no one actually has tires, in 2 weeks I'll be ripping around the city again.

I did the same with an Evo and that thing just goes, I don't think I've felt that much control in a car...ever.

I kinda want to test drive one of the new Nissan GTR's but with big honkin' winter tires just to see what it's like, I test drove one in the summer and it was more or less uncrashable, I get the feeling it would be like that, but more hilarious with winter tires.

And that's the difference, some people just don't know how to drive, but yet still feel the need to speed.
And then some idiot kept breaking....going downhill....on a sheet of ice...and you wonder why you almost smacked the median.

I just bought a Subaru Outback 3.0 this year - man it's like they were built for Canadian winters. Now I know why half of Colorado has one of these things.

A winter tire law makes a lot more sense then making 90% of drivers "learn" to winter drive. I drove in this city 25 winters without a collision before trying winter tires, so I think I know how to winter drive. That said, once I got winter tires the difference was dramatic and I wouldn't go back to all seasons for anything. I drove without seatbelts for my first 10 years of driving without getting killed but I wouldn't drive without them now. Believe what you want, but its obvious that using winter tires decreases the chance of getting in a collision, whether you know how to winter drive or not.

Well Unlike Quebec which snow doesn't melt within 2 weeks and the amount of snow fall is greatly less. There are 2 to 4 days a year which snow tires benefit. Beyond that common sense driving techniques are sufficient.

So I do not think it is worth it to spend money on winter tires which provide significant benifit on 2 days a year and moderate benifit on a few others and on the vast majority of days little benifit. I would rather spend the extra money on road clearing then on winter tires.

You could also say we should not allow rear wheel drive cars on the road because they handle far poorer in the snow.

We're already there. There have been at least 3 or 4 days now where only Crowchild/Deerfoot/Glenmore etc are clear. The residential streets have enough snow on them to warrant snow tires.

Add to that the day of/day after the 5-10 snowfalls we will get and we're looking at a hell of a lot more than 4 days.

I think too, you have to look at the wear and tear that is NOT occurring on your summer tires by using winter tires. You will get more life out of your summer tires by buying winter tires, and running with them in the winter season.
