The deuce doesn't take you there, you have to get off at the Denny's at teh end of the Strip and walk across to catch the #108

You're better off going to the outlet mall north of the strip then going to Primm. There's really nothing in Primm that isn't at the other outlet mall to make it worth the long trip.

Recession hits Sin City

Quote:
With Las Vegas in the grips of its worst economy since the early 1980s, the storm that dumped four inches of snow on the desert metropolis in mid-December felt like piling on. The city's cocksure swagger is gone.

Gaming revenue in Clark County, which includes downtown Las Vegas and the Strip, is down 8.5% for the year, to $8.3 billion. But the revenue for October, the last month for which figures are available, is off an ominous 24.3% vs. the same month in 2007. Visitor volume is down 3% over last year, though the city's convention business is holding steady.

Ok tomorrow is the big day, my first trip to Vegas. Going with my dad and bro, but we'll be up for almost anything...

Anyone been there this weekend, have any good tips? Anything going on right now that I should try to check out? Any fellow CPers down there, want to watch the game? (I'll need a break from hookers, blow, gambling, and shopping... and hanging out with my family haha).

Although it is probably too late, last year I was able to get the guys at the Tropicana sports bar to put the World Cup on the big screen because it's pretty well dead in there and they want to cater to their few customers. I'm sure they would be equally amenable to putting hockey on, as long as it wasn't Sunday (NFL).

I think it actually might do the place some good - I used to enjoy the place a lot more when it appealed to a wider demographic (ie - not just people with more money than sense). I have no interest in paying $200+ a night for a room I'm not going to sleep more than 3/4 hours in, and I'm similarly not interested in blowing $1000+ a day so I can get that room comped.

It used to be Vegas was a great value where you could go away for a weekend and not come back destitute; now you can spend the same money that you'd spend there in 3 days and go somewhere else for a week, so the allure diminishes greatly. I'm by no means a cheapskate, but I can gamble, watch strippers and get royally pissed here for 1/10 the price of Vegas, so why bother anymore?

Will be there next week. I have been checking a few sites out and www.travelzoo.com seems to have daily/weekly deals on entertainment as well as rooms.

I recommend calling the hotels directly. If you have a players club card for the hotel even better and call the number on the back of it. I stayed at Bellagio for $80/night by doing that.
