I think it's partly because the female comedians involved felt so cheated getting Palin as the VP pick. Both were Clinton fans and wanted to see her in the ticket ahead of Obama, I think they feel the GOP trying to steal the thunder and sway some female votes is a slap in the face to thinking females (Especially with Palins conservative views about abortion) and are realy sticking it to her.

Ya thats true. I wonder if these Thursday, very political SNL skits has to do with playing off the fame of the instantly famous Tiny Fey "Palin" sketch, and all the ratings it brought in. This is the most popular the show's been since the beginning of the decade. I think they may just be riding the wave.
As for Colbert and especially Stewart, ya I know they've always been like this. But in the last month or two they've really taken it up a notch. There's definitely enough comedic material out of McCain and Palin to jump on, but I find that lately they've even been taking IMO absolutely normal, innocent comments, and completely twisting them around to basically make every word that comes out of their mouths sound awful. I find it annoying. Its funny when Stewart jumps all over a ######ed comment by one of them. But lately he just grabs anything, I think he's pushing his agenda way too hard. I'll tune in again in mid-November...

I agree that the female cast has reason to be offended with that decision but as far as the material I think it comes down to the writers and ultimately, the Canadian influence in the show, Lorne Michaels. He is the executive producer/creator of the show and decisions like this ultimately fall on him.

I don't think he's too worried. Palin gave them the highest rating in 14 years.

Tonight's guest host is Mad Men star Jon Hamm. Music guest is Coldplay.
Can you guess how I feel?

I am totally stoked to see Jon Hamm host SNL tonight! And by "totally stoked to see Jon Hamm host SNL tonight!" I mean "curious to find out who the eff Jon Hamm is when he hosts SNL because I have no effing idea who Jon Hamm is!" No, I can't be bothered to find out on my own.
I am also totally stoked to see Coldplay on SNL tonight, and by that I mean, "I am totally stoked to see Coldplay on SNL tonight."

I think they are replaying all the Thursday night "Weekend Updates" sometime tonight before SNL
They have been hilarious even if one sided. However maybe McCain's campaign should stop making it so easy.

Too true. I suppose this is a way to balance things out, and in a more entertaining way.

Not a bad show overall. I'd say a little too much Mad Men (I've never seen, so the A-hole sketch, while funny, slightly wen't over my head with the characters), but the vibe was on all night.
Congrats to Amy Poehler, giving birth to Archie Arnett, and kudoes to Seth Meyers for not only the first line of Weekend Update, which was awesome if you didn't know the news already, and for carrying a somewhat loaded Weekend Update. Seemed like they added too many guests into WU, to lighten the load.
And the return, for now, of Mya Rudolph. Good to see her back, too bad we don't see her in anything else.
Nothing made me cry, but some great skits... much better than last week.
I must say, I like the Thursday format of WU, having that mid-ish week is great, and I thought having Coldplay do 'Yellow' at the end was nice. Might be a good format to try, the current hit, the next single, and a classic. Then again, if they bring on bands like Vampire Weekend (which was OK, but not quite my cup-o-tea, not that Coldplay is either), you'd probably be pressed to get three songs out of them...
I'm happy this Sunday.

It's likely they added the third song to make up for one or more sketches they had to cut because of Amy's unexpected absence.

Not as good tonight, but the clincher was David Cook.
David Cook? Ugh.
If you're going to have a sub-par show at least have a decent musical guest.

McCain was on Weekend Update and also did a skit in which his wife made an appearance.....it was a spoof about a shopping channel.
He was actually quite good.........lots of jabs at himself. He should have done it ages ago, he seemed a lot less hostile and more personable.

Personally I felt that McCain's appearance was a pathetic attempt to appear more personable. A desperate attempt to capture those undecided younger voters.

That's unfortunate you feel that way. McCain has always done well on comedic shows he has appeared on. SNL (has previous appearances including hosting it once), Daily Show, Colbert Report and Conan. He never has had any problems appearing personable before and always is good for a laugh. Could it be you are a little biased in your assessment?
