I think that he is saying the Claire is someone who was born with powers. From his comment I would bet that the majority of the powers were given by the formula.

I think there's a small amount of characters that were born with their abilities.

I think the Petrelli and Nakamura families are doing this. I'd guess their genetics have a high rate of 'powers' relative to the rest of the world and their genetic coding prevents them from going all Suresh when they get injected with the formula (they probably have a refined formula too).
I think the group the Petrelli's and Nakamura elders belong to has been playing dead and have a hidden agenda.

It looked like from the end when Peter attacked future Nathen using Sylar's power that Nathen was given powers.
I would suspect on the show that the only ones with original powers
are:
Peter
Sylar
Claire
Hiro
Just a thought but Claire could be the first child of two parents who were given the formula to create powers somehow making her "Perfect" in Sylars eyes.

Why would a cell designed to hold people with super-powers having something as silly as a vent in which for them to escape.
And then why introduce something so silly only to have the guys caught when trying to use said vent to escape.
Just dumb.

I have a confession to make: I don't have it in me anymore to care about this show. I think I'm going to stop watching it. I forgave them for season 2, but 4 episodes into season 3 and I just can't stand all the time jumping. I'm sure they have an idea, but it seems as thought the writers are just flying by the seat of their pants all the time.
Bye heroes, it's been fun!

Truthfully, I am almost there. I think I am hanging on, because I really did like the first season. But as you say, and I said earlier, all the time jumping is just getting confusing. They aren't really developing their characters. The ones they have are pretty annoying and useless.
I am not sure what I am hoping to have them do with the show now, but I think I have it in me to watch one more episode.

I'm almost there as well. I've worked the past couple of Mondays so I've taped Heroes and it takes me days to finally watch it - because I just don't care.
I suspect I in fact may be done with it now for good.

I don't know why I keep watching this show. I guess it's hard to quit watching something mid-season when you've devoted two entire years to watching it. It is unfathomably bad though.

Heroes is destined to fail unfortunately.. the writing has become stale and the stories can't overcome the bland or over acting of the actors.

I think the majority of people actually have real powers. There seem to be too many surprises out there. People with new powers that are unknown. If everyone was given powers, tracking them and dispensing of them would be a simple matter.
As for Suresh being altered by the formula, that is because his formula is not quite right. In the future regular people are given a correct formula and that is why the general populace has powers.

Watched it tonight - no idea why - the show is trash now.
The problem is there is no consistency in the characters. Sylar goes from being the most level headed character to being "crazy spider guy". Hiro is just irritating now and probably the worst part of the show. Sylar goes from pure evil to know being a "good guy".
The ONLY redeeming quality is that they've had a couple of actors from The Wire this season. Good to see Bubs getting work.

I'm on the edge and just about to jump off.
How this show went from amazing to terrible in a couple of season is truly astonishing.
And you're right, Jiri. There have been too many character changes, and for the worse. Hiro used to be entertaining and now I have no idea what the show is trying to do with him. Sylar is lame. He used to be cool badass and is just a pawn now. Peter is......what is Peter exactly? There have been about five renditions of Peter in the past three episodes so I have no idea who he is anymore. Suresh? Most useless character EVER. He's gone fracking crazy for pretty much no reason. MexicanBoobs is a waste of silicone and a waste of space. Claire is some sort of bounty hunter all of a sudden. Tracy --- I have no idea why they got rid of "Nikki" to bring on a new useless storyline.
The only character who hasn't changed much is HRG.
It's like X-men gone wrong....so many people with powers. It's getting out of control.

Hercules over at aintitcoolnews.com was a big fan of the show too but it sounds like he's hopping off:
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38713
His reference to the "idiot plot" is spot on:
In literary and film criticism, an idiot plot is a plot which (in the words of the Turkey City Lexicon), "functions only because all the characters involved are idiots: They behave in a way that suits the author's convenience, rather than through any rational motivation of their own." Alternate formulations describe only the protagonist as being an idiot.
And, indeed, Peter, Nathan, Noah, Angela, Hiro, Claire, Sylar and other major characters all seem to have had most of their IQs slowly sapped away by the Haitian over the last two seasons.

man season 3 is going downhill so fast it might just eclipse season 2 as worst yet.... It's gone just downright absurd characters switching sides every episode, dying every episode only to reappear alive.

i'm finding it to be the same way, and i have the same problem with season 2 of Terminator Chronicles. it's so bland that i just can't bring myself to devote the time to watch it. Dexter on the other hand i watch as soon as it's recorded, the writers there haven't missed a beat
